  1. 1. Environmental Contaminants and Obesity

    Author : Monika Rönn; P. Monica Lind; Lars Lind; Jan Örberg; Merete Eggesbø; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Fischer 344; rat; obesity; adipose tissue; persistent organic pollutants; POPs; bisphenol A; BPA; pesticides; dioxin; PCB; DDT; apo A-I; adiponectin; leptin; ghrelin;

    Abstract : Obesity is a worldwide problem affecting both children and adults. Genetic, physiological, environmental, psychological, social and economic factors interact in varying degrees, influencing body weight and fat distribution and the progress of obesity. READ MORE

  2. 2. Biophysical Studies of Apolipoprotein A-IM and a Partitioning study

    Author : Malin Suurkuusk; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Apolipoprotein A-IMilano; Apolipoprotein A-I; Lipoprotein; Lipid; Microcalorimetry; DCS; Denaturation; Guanidine Hydrochloride; Physics; Fysik; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : The major part of this thesis deals with the similarities and differences in some biophysical properties of apolipoprotein A-I (apo A-I) and the molecular variant apolipoprotein A-IMilano (apo A-IM), and the influence on lipid binding. A model compound partitioning study has also been performed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Lipoproteomics : mapping of proteins in LDL and HDL

    Author : Helen Karlsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : High-density lipoprotein (HDL) and (LDL)-density lipoprotein (LDL) are important lipoprotein fractions in human plasma. HDL is the most abundant lipoprotein particle and a negative risk factor of atherosclerosis while LDL is considered to possess atherogenic properties. READ MORE

  4. 4. Lipoproteomics : A New Approach to the Identification and Characterization of Proteins in LDL and HDL

    Author : Helen Karlsson; Mats Lindahl; Christer Tagesson; Pia Davidsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LDL; HDL; Proteomik; Atheroskleros; Masspektrometri; 2-DE; Molecular medicine; Molekylär medicin;

    Abstract : A proteomic approach was applied to examine the protein composition of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in humans. LDL and HDL were isolated by density gradient ultracentrifugation, and proteins were separated with twodimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) and identified with peptide mass fingerprinting, using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry, and with amino acid sequencing using electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry. 5. 5. Inhibition of smooth muscle cell proliferation after balloon injury

    Author : Bojan Cercek; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Smooth muscle cell proliferation is an important part of the arterial response to injury Insulin like growth factor-I (IGF-I) is involved in regulation of cell proliferation and hypopituitarism is associated with decreased vessel wall response to injury. We investigated the role of vascular IGF-I in vessel wall response to injury. READ MORE
