  1. 1. Optimization of truck tyres selection

    Author : Zuzana Nedelkova; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; radial basis function; categorical variables; truck tyres; simulation-based optimization; surrogate model; approximately optimal solution; efficient solution; rolling resistance coefficient; vehicle dynamics; simulation-based optimization;

    Abstract : This thesis, which consists of an introduction and five appended papers, concerns the optimal selection of tyres for a variety of vehicle configurations as well as operating environments. The selection problem stems from a project cooperation between Chalmers University of Technology and Volvo Group Trucks Technology. READ MORE

  2. 2. Evaluation of Dust Suppressants for Gravel Roads : Methods Development and Efficiency Studies

    Author : Karin Edvardsson; Björn Birgisson; Andrew Dawson; KTH; []
    Keywords : Gravel road; dust; particulate matter; PM10; horizontal dust diffusion; deteriorations; maintenance; dust control; dust suppressants; efficiency; application rate; leaching; residual concentration; seasonal variations; salt solution; solid salt; calcium chloride; magnesium chloride; lignosulphonate; polysaccharide sugar ; bitumen emulsion; rape oil; starch; surfactant; mesa; clay; fine material content;

    Abstract : Approximately 75 percent (300 000 km) of the total Swedish road network and 20 percent(20 000 km) of the national road network consists of gravel roads. One of the most significantproblems associated with gravel roads is traffic-generated dust emission, which contributes tothe deterioration of the road surface and acts as a major source of particulate matter releasedinto the atmosphere, thereby involving public economics, road safety, human health, andenvironmental quality. 3. 3. Coordination of Heavy-Duty Vehicle Platooning

    Author : Sebastian van de Hoef; Dimos V. Dimarogonas; Simona Sacone; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; road freight transport; optimization; optimal control; automatic control; fuel-efficiency; match-making; off-board; intelligent transport systems; automated driving; clustering; scheduling; cooperative; large-scale; dynamic programming; trucks; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : A network-wide coordination system for heavy-duty vehicle platooning with the purpose of reducing fuel consumption is developed. Road freight is by far the dominating mode for overland transport with over 60 % modal share in the OECD countries and is thus critically important for the economy. 4. 4. Graded index sonic crystal noise barriers: An introduction to design and optimization

    Author : Bart van der Aa; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Shape optimal design; Broadband acoustic lens; Optimization; Outdoor sound propagation; Sonic crystal noise barrier; Graded index sonic crystal;

    Abstract : Environmental noise pollution and its impact on human beings remains to be an important topic in acoustics. Conservative estimations of the World Health Organization have shown that traffic related noise alone causes a loss of approximately one million healthy life years, only within Western Europe. 5. 5. Approximate Dynamic Programming with Applications

    Author : Andreas Wernrud; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : This thesis studies approximate optimal control of nonlinear systems. Particular attention is given to global solutions and to the computation of approximately optimal feedback controllers. The solution to an optimal control problem is characterized by the optimal value function. READ MORE
