  1. 1. Tethered Lipid Vesicles as Nanoscale Sensor Elements

    Author : Seyed Tabaei; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aquaglyceroporin; lipid vesicles; total internal reflection fluorescence TIRF microscopy; cell membrane; aquaporin; pore formation; surface plasmon resonance SPR ; phospholipase A2; antiviral peptide; lipid bilayer; biosensing; microfluidics;

    Abstract : The primary aim of this thesis work has been to explore and advance the potential of surface tethered lipid vesicles as a platform for studying in particular the following three biomembrane-related processes: trans-membrane transport, membrane-peptide interactions and the activity of membrane active enzymes. First, a method based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy was developed for studying passive diffusion processes as well as the membrane-protein mediated transport of small non electrolyte molecules across lipid bilayers. 2. 2. Regulation of glycerol efflux in adipocytes. Structural and functional studies of the glycerol channel aquaporin 7

    Author : Sofia de Mare; Medicinsk strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glycerol : metabolism; Lipolysis; X-ray Crystallography; Perilipin 1; Aquaglyceroporin; Aquaporin 7; Adipocytes metabolism; Glycerol : metabolism; adipocyte metabolism; X-ray crystallography; Aquaglyceroporin; Aquaporin 7; Perilipin 1; Lipolysis;

    Abstract : Glycerol levels in adipocytes depend on the lipolysis, the hydrolysis of triglycerides into glycerol and free fatty acids, and the efflux of glycerol across the plasma membrane through glycerol channels. The aims of this work were to investigate how glycerol levels are regulated on a molecular level by PLIN1, a major lipid droplet-associated protein and a key regulator of the lipolysis by scaffolding for lipolytic proteins on the lipid droplet. 3. 3. Plant major intrinsic proteins. Identification and characterization of novel water channel-like protiens

    Author : Sofia Gustavsson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Växtbiokemi; Plant biochemistry; GIP; SIP; GUS; immunolabelling; aquaporin; aquaglyceroporin;

    Abstract : The Major Intrinsic Proteins, MIPs, constitute a large, ancient superfamily of membrane proteins that are found in all kingdoms of life. Most MIPs facilitate passive diffusion of water across biological membranes (aquaporins), although many channels are also permeable for glycerol and other small uncharged solutes, (aquaglyceroporins). 5. 5. Glucose and glycerol transport in adipocytes from a structural perspective

    Author : Peng Huang; Medicinsk strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adipocytes; glucose and glycerol metabolism; glucose transporters; aquaglyceroporins; glucose transporter 4; aquaglyceroporin 7; protein and protein interaction; structure; single particle cryo-EM;

    Abstract : Adipocytes are crucial energy reservoirs to maintain metabolic homeostasis of glucose and lipids in the human body.Glucose transporters (GLUTs) and aquaporins (AQPs) play an important role in metabolic regulation of glucose andlipids in human adipocytes. READ MORE
