  1. 16. Biomarkers of aromatic isocyanates in exposed workers

    Author : Pernilla Lind; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adducts; biomarkers; exposure; occupational; methylenediphenyl diisocyanate; toluene diisocyanate; amines; isocyanates; polyurethane; Gas chromatography; mass spectrometry; Occupational health; industrial medicine; Yrkesmedicin; arbetsmiljömedicin;

    Abstract : The aromatic isocyanates, toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and methylenediphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), are used in the production of polyurethane (PUR) foams, paints, elastomers and glues. The use of isocyanates is increasing, and exposure to isocyanates is the most common cause of occupational asthma. READ MORE

  2. 17. Metabolism and Biological Monitoring of Organic Acid Anhydrides

    Author : Christian Lindh; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; rats; human; distribution; analysis; biological monitoring; autoradiography; adducts; hemoglobin; plasma; urine; Hexahydrophthalic anhydride; methyltetrahydrophthalic anhydride; guinea pigs; Occupational health; industrial medicine; Yrkesmedicin; arbetsmiljömedicin;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to describe the metabolism and to develope methods for biological monitoring for two organic acid anhydrides (OAAs), namely hexahydrophthalic anhydride (HHPA) and methylhexa-hydrophthalic anhydride (MHHPA). The OAAs are reactive, low molecular weight chemicals used in vast quantities in the industry. READ MORE

  3. 18. Polyurethane - occupational exposure, biomarkers and symptoms

    Author : Margareta Littorin; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; spray; polyurethane; nose; metabolites; lung function ; lower airways; inflammation; heat; glue; genetic polymorphism; di isocyanate; Antibodies; biomarkers; Occupational health; industrial medicine; Yrkesmedicin; arbetsmiljömedicin; symptoms;

    Abstract : Isocyanates may cause occupational asthma, rhinitis, and hypersensitivity pneumonitis. However, the mechanisms behind initiation of the disorders and the relations between exposure and effect are insufficiently elucidated. Means to biomonitor exposure and risk would be valuable. Abstract : The Driving to Learn project explored possible achievements of training people with cognitive disabilities in a joystick-operated powered wheelchair utilizing the grounded theory approach. Theoretical sampling led the concomitant collection and analysis of data. READ MORE

  5. 20. Work-related musculoskeletal disorders - exposure assessment and gender aspects

    Author : Catarina Nordander; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Skelett; Occupational health; Yrkesmedicin; industrial medicine; arbetsmiljömedicin; reumatologi; muskelsystem; rheumatology locomotion; muscle system; Skeleton; repetitive work; sex; occupational; myalgia; Surface EMG; muscular activity;

    Abstract : Work-related musculoskeletal disorders are widespread, and are, for unclear reasons, more common among females than in males. Several risk factors have been described; constrained and awkward postures, repetitive and/or force demanding motions, and lack of recovery. READ MORE
