  1. 1. SHAKER ARCHITECTURAL MATERIALS AND CRAFTSMANSHIP

    Author : Erika Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; masonry.; paint; interpretation; Shaker architecture; wood; mortar; conservation; Second Meetinghouse; plaster; The Mount Lebanon Project; authenticity; preservation; Architectural conservation; conservation assessment; Shaker Museum and Library; NARA document; heritage values; lime; feasibility study; craftsmanship; materials analyses; intangible dimensions; Mount Lebanon Shaker Society;

    Abstract : AbstractThis work is an investigation into the state-of-the-art of architectural conservation, from an international and interdisciplinary perspective. It explores issues, methodologies, and tools applicable to heritage resource assessments - from an architectural conservators point of view - and its aim is to generate appropriate approaches, methodologies and tools to holistically assess both the tangible and intangible aspects of significant architecture from the past. Abstract : This doctoral thesis analyses and makes proposals about adapting the poten-tial of digital means of production to the needs of the concrete industry. More precisely, it aims at fostering the development of sustainable material cycles and the innovation in manufacturing methods in the field of architectural and structural design of ultra-high performance fibre-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC). 3. 3. Critical indirectness as a design approach in participatory practice: Spatialities of multivocal estrangement in three engagements with public cultural institutions around participatory projects in Gothenburg

    Author : Jonathan Geib; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; indirectness; multivocal design approach; design; participation; multivocality; transdisciplinary architectural research; critical spatial practice; spatiality; estrangement; design approach;

    Abstract : Contributing across the domains of open transdisciplinary inquiry and transdisciplinary- and practice-oriented architectural and urbanism research engaging critically with participation in urban contexts, this research proposes critical indirectness as a multivocal design approach in participatory practice, developed through conceptual-analytical inquiry into three cases involving engagements between external art and design practitioners and public cultural institutions around participatory projects in Gothenburg. It joins with calls for art and design practitioners' greater engagement with public sector institutions as way of working towards a more durable and wider impact, with calls to model a more de-centered 'urban-combinatory' practice on the plurality, hybridity, discontinuities, and contingencies of the contemporary city, and with calls for more multiple, contradictory approaches. 4. 4. Nordiskt perspektiv på arkitektur: kritisk regionalisering i nordiska stadshus 1900-1955

    Author : Gerd Bloxham; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; design process; Nordic architecture; architectural theory; town halls; architectural history; place-specificity; architectural competitions; historiographic methodology; critical regionalism;

    Abstract : The author investigates the reception of main international currents in the Nordic countries as manifested in a specific building type, the town hall/municipal administration building, chosen as the constant necessary for an inter-Nordic, comparative analysis. This investigation has been attempted on two levels, one inductive and one deductive, in a 'double-focus' approach. READ MORE

  5. 5. Sustainable Implementation of Electrified Roads : Structural and Material Analyses

    Author : Feng Chen; Niki Kringos; Andreas Loizos; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrified road; Structural performance; Constitutive modelling; Asphalt; Dielectric loss.; Elektrifierade vägar; Strukturellt beteende; Konstruktivt modellerande; Asfalt; Dielektrisk förlust.; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Transportvetenskap; Transport Science;

    Abstract : Given the promise of the Inductive Power Transfer (IPT) technology for eRoad applications, the potential challenges for a successful integration of dynamic IPT technology into the physical road structure are explored extensively in this research work. The Finite Element Method (FEM) is selected for studying the structural performance of an eRoad under operational conditions. READ MORE
