  1. 1. Architectural prototypes : modes of design development and architectural practice

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH

    Author : Jonas Runberger; KTH.; [2008]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; architecture theory; design theory; prototype; performance; effect; affect; architectural design project; parametric model; design solution space; fabrication; production; industrial process; research by design; digital practice; projective practice; generative components; krets; parcel; splinegraft; urbantoys v.2; informed modularity; TECHNOLOGY Civil engineering and architecture Architecture and architectural conservation and restoration Architecture; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur Arkitektur och bebyggelsevård Arkitektur;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis is design driven, partly based on case studies in the form of experimental design projects developed mainly within the research and design collective Krets. It constitutes the first half of a PhD project that studies new technologies and techniques within design processes and the production of architecture, especially in relation to collaborative models. 2. 2. Realtime & Development - modes of knowing design computation in architectural practice

    University dissertation from ; Chalmers tekniska högskola; Gothenburg

    Author : Frans Magnusson; [2017]
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Design Methodology; Architectural Practice; Design Theory; Action Research; Computational Design; Design Computation; Design Systems; Project Workflow Management;

    Abstract : This thesis examines theoretical, methodological and organisational implications of design computation for architectural practice - from an insider perspective. It also proposes a conceptual model for knowing within this practice, in an approach that interrelates theory and actionable knowledge. READ MORE

  3. 3. Critical indirectness as a design approach in participatory practice: Spatialities of multivocal estrangement in three engagements with public cultural institutions around participatory projects in Gothenburg

    University dissertation from ; Chalmers tekniska högskola; Gothenburg

    Author : Jonathan Geib; [2019]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; estrangement; design; design approach; multivocal design approach; indirectness; critical spatial practice; spatiality; participation; multivocality; transdisciplinary architectural research;

    Abstract : Contributing across the domains of open transdisciplinary inquiry and transdisciplinary- and practice-oriented architectural and urbanism research engaging critically with participation in urban contexts, this research proposes critical indirectness as a multivocal design approach in participatory practice, developed through conceptual-analytical inquiry into three cases involving engagements between external art and design practitioners and public cultural institutions around participatory projects in Gothenburg. It joins with calls for art and design practitioners' greater engagement with public sector institutions as way of working towards a more durable and wider impact, with calls to model a more de-centered 'urban-combinatory' practice on the plurality, hybridity, discontinuities, and contingencies of the contemporary city, and with calls for more multiple, contradictory approaches. 4. 4. Structurally Informed Architectural Design

    University dissertation from ; Chalmers tekniska högskola; Gothenburg

    Author : Laurens Luyten; [2012]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; architect; structural engineer; architectural design; structural design; conceptual design; design collaboration;

    Abstract : Architectural form and its supporting structure are results of interdependent design processes that do not always develop in harmony: often major outlines of architectural form are decided before structural design is involved. This doctoral work investigates design collaborations between architects and structural engineers in which architecture and structure are designed in mutual agreement, and structural design is able to guide and inspire a creation of architectural form and space. 5. 5. Sustainability-, Buildability- and Performance-driven Structural Design

    University dissertation from ; Chalmers tekniska högskola; Gothenburg

    Author : Alexandre Mathern; [2019]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; material developments; performance; requirements; constructability; sustainability; buildability; integrated design; structural engineering; structural developments; design method; bridges; finite element analysis; concrete structures; civil engineering; construction technology;

    Abstract : The construction, maintenance and operation of infrastructure networks represent substantial impacts, both positive and negative, in all three dimensions of sustainability: economic, social and environmental. The greatest possibility to reduce the negative impacts and increase the positive ones is at the early design stage of construction projects. READ MORE
