1. Architectural Prototypes II : Reformations, Speculations and Strategies in the Digital Design Field
Abstract : This doctoral thesis is situated within the digital design field of architecture, and is a continuation of the licentiate thesis Architectural Prototypes: Modes of Design Development and Architectural Practice, presented at the KTH School of Architecture in 2008. The doctoral thesis investigates the current status of the digital design field of architecture, and identifies a number of related discourses. READ MORE

2. Taming the Erratic : Representation and materialization in post-digital architectural design
Abstract : This thesis investigates materialization and representation in contemporary architectural design practice. Due to cultural and technological shifts, the act of design is no longer squarely located in the abstract realms of drawings or digital geometries. READ MORE

3. Transcalar Design : biological principles in architecture through computational design and additive fabrication
Abstract : Architecture is currently facing a period of transformational change which is driven by an increasing awareness of sustainability imperatives combined with technological advancements in the form of digitalisation of design and fabrication processes. These issues both introduce new layers of complexity and necessitate strategies to navigate them. READ MORE

4. Knitted architecture and wind: Designing loosely fitted architectural textiles for interaction with wind
Abstract : Utilising the textile’s ability to adapt to external forces such as the wind could lead to the creation of new design expressions and functional features within architecture. Prompted by architectural potentials of textiles deliberately designed to move and flex, this thesis aims to explore and demonstrate how such knitted textiles could contribute to enriched aesthetic expression and improved performance of architectural elements placed in windy environments. 5. Program Matters : From Drawing to Code
Abstract : Whether on paper, on site or mediating between both, means for reading and writing geometry have been central to architecture: the use of compasses and rulers, strings, pins, stakes or plumb-lines enabled the analysis and reproduction of congruent figures on different surfaces since antiquity, and from the renaissance onwards, the consistent planar representation of three-dimensional shapes by means of projective geometry. Tacitly through practice, or explicitly encoded in classical geometry, the operational syntaxes of drawing instruments, real or imaginary, have determined the geometric literacies regulating the production and instruction of architecture.
