  1. 1. Robust intersection of hexahedral meshes and triangle meshes with applications in finite volume methods

    Author : Frida Svelander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; triangle-hex intersection; overlapping triangles; degenerate mesh; volume fraction; area fraction; cut cell; conjugated heat transfer.; triangle-hex intersection;

    Abstract : The topic of this thesis is the intersection of a structured hexahedral grid and one or more triangle meshes. The interest in the problem has arisen in connection with a finite volume method for simulation of conjugated heat transfer. READ MORE

  2. 2. Apoptosis induced by a human milk protein complex. Cellular and structural studies in tumour cells and bacteria

    Author : Anders Håkansson; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serology; Immunology; nuclear uptake; caspases; mitochondria; S. pneumoniae; alpha-lactalbumin; milk; breast-feeding; Apoptosis; tumour cells; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : Human milk contains a vast array of bioactive molecules, with nutritional and protective functions. This thesis describes the effects of a human milk protein complex, MAL, on tumour cells and bacteria. During our studies on the anti-adhesive properties of human milk we observed that a milk fraction killed tumour cells. READ MORE

  3. 3. Functional properties of galectin-3. Beyond the sugar binding

    Author : Adriana Lepur; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; galectin-3; galectin-1; M1 macrophage; M2 macrophage; self-association; fluorescence anisotropy; citrus pectin; galactomannane;

    Abstract : Contemporary diseases like diabetes, asthma, atherosclerosis etc. are marked by chronic inflammation, often supported by the activity of different macrophages. Proteins from galectin family were found to contribute to disease pathophysiology. Therefore, there is an intensive interest in understanding different galectin functions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Neutrophil recruitment in periodontal disease

    Author : Agnes Dahlstrand Rudin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neutrophil; periodontitis; P. gingivalis; F. nucleatum; SCFA; FFAR2; CD177; A1AT;

    Abstract : Neutrophils are the first immune cells to arrive in infected or injured tissues, where they engulf microbes and clean up cell debris. Periodontitis is one of the typical symptoms of both neutropenia and defect neutrophil functionality, suggesting an important role for these cells in maintenance of periodontal health. READ MORE

  5. 5. Group B streptococcus capsular polysaccharide - Cholera toxin B subunit conjugate vaccine for mucosal immunisation : development and preclinical evaluation of experimental conjugate vaccines

    Author : Xuzhuang Shen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Group B streptococci (GBS) can colonize the female genital and rectal tracts and cause invasive infection in susceptible newborns. An optimally effective GBS vaccine should induce both mucosal and systemic immunity. READ MORE
