  1. 1. Evolutionary dynamics of migration and breeding in wild birds: genetic architecture, sexual conflicts and evolutionary constraints

    Author : Maja Tarka; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantitative genetics; heritability; intralocus sexual conflict; antagonistic selection; QTL; G-matrix; wing length; arrival date; migration; geolocator; bird; Acrocephalus arundinaceus;

    Abstract : Our knowledge of the evolutionary potential of traits involved in different selective episodes, especially in natural populations, is still limited. This is true for questions such as the genetic basis and inheritance of traits, how natural and sexual selection acts on them, and how selective conflicts influence the evolutionary response to selection. 2. 2. Expatriate entrepreneurship : the role of accelerators in network formation and resource acquisition

    Author : Nedim Efendic; Handelshögskolan i Stockholm; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Immigrant entrepreneurship is an increasingly important socio-economic phenomenon. To date, immigrant entrepreneurship research has focused on immigrants that decide to engage in self-employment after having established themselves in the host country. READ MORE

  3. 3. Pastoral pasts in the Amboseli landscape : An archaeological exploration of the Amboseli ecosystem from the later Holocene to the colonial period

    Author : Anna Shoemaker; Paul Lane; Andrew Reid; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Pastoralism; Amboseli; Historical Archaeology; Eastern Africa; Eastern African Iron Age; Maasai; Pastoral Archaeology; Usable Pasts; Archaeology; Arkeologi;

    Abstract : The Amboseli ecosystem, home of Amboseli National Park, is renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity, and has long drawn the attention of conservationists and ecologists hoping to safeguard the healthy functioning of this Kenyan rangeland and the pastoral traditions that have brought this landscape into being. There is major concern currently however, as present day Amboseli pastoral livelihoods are said to be in decline owing to rangelands being settled, fenced, and converted to farmland. READ MORE

  4. 4. Search for Neutrinos from Gamma-ray Bursts using the IceCube Neutrino Observatory

    Author : Kunal Avinash Deoskar; Chad Finley; Klas Hultqvist; Paschal Coyle; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gamma-ray bursts; neutrinos; IceCube Neutrino Observatory; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : Gamma ray bursts (GRBs) are short bursts of high energy γ-radiation and are among some of the most energetic phenomena in the universe. GRBs have three distinct emission phases: the prompt phase with high-energy γ-rays, the precursor phase which is the time interval before the prompt phase and is reported to have an additional smaller burst for some GRBs, and the afterglow phase which is the time interval after the prompt phase with observations for electromagnetic radiation across a large wavelength range reported for many GRBs. 5. 5. New constraints on paleoreconstructions through geochronology of mafic dyke swarms in North Atlantic Craton

    Author : Mimmi Nilsson; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; baddeleyit; U-Pb; geokronologi; large igneous province; mantelplym; superkontinent; paleorekonstruktion; North Atlantic craton; baddeleyite; Large Igneous Province; Mantle plume; supercontinent; paleoreconstruction; U-Pb; geochronology; North Atlantic craton;

    Abstract : Earth history is punctuated by a series of events of supercontinent amalgamation and break-up. Fragments of old continents display rifted margins and orogenic sutures that testify their involvement in supercontinent cycles. READ MORE
