  1. 16. Articular distension in arthroscopy : an experimental study on intra- and extra-articular effects of pressure

    Author : Anders Sperber; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Arthroscopy; intra-articular pressure; in vivo measurements; knee joint capsule; tensile properties; stress-strain; multicompartmental pressures; lower leg venous blood flow; ultrasound; acromioplasty; intra-muscular pressure; fluid absorption; shoul;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis was to analyse the effects of various intra-articular pressures (IAP) on soft tissues and to provide guidelines for the choice of safe infusion pressures during arthroscopy. The tensile properties of the knee-joint capsule were recorded from stress-strain-relaxation tests within 170 mmHg IAP. READ MORE

  2. 17. Cytokines in rheumatoid arthritis

    Author : Ann-Kristin Ulfgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Rheumatoid arthritis; Synovitis; Immunohistochemistry; Digital image analysis; Cytokine Therapy; TNF neutralisation; Arthroscopy;

    Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic systemic disease characterised by inflammation in several joints. Cytokines appear to be important as both disease promoting and disease- suppressing mediators in the disease. READ MORE

  3. 18. A concept for treatment of sports related knee injuries

    Author : Magnus Forssblad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Local anesthesia; arthroscopy; health care cost; knee injuries; efficacy; insurance; knee surgery cost; rearthroscopy; football; soccer; handball; ice hockey; floor ball;

    Abstract : The aim of the present thesis was, to evaluate local anaesthesia as ananaesthetic technique when performing knee arthroscopies, from a clinicaland economical point of view, and to describe the total costs for surgeryof knee injuries caused by sport activities in Stockholm. In a retrospective study of 6519 arthroscopies, we tried to estimate thefailure rate for knee arthroscopy in local anaesthesia compared to thesame procedure in general anaesthesia. READ MORE

  4. 19. Shoulder instability : a clinical and MRI-based analysis

    Author : Björn Salomonsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Shoulder instability; Shoulder instability classification; Shoulder arthroscopy; MRI; MR-arthography; Shoulder instability surgery; Shoulder instability assessment; Outcome instruments;

    Abstract : Shoulder instability is a common but complex and challenging area of shoulder pathology, and new diagnostic methods and treatments are continuously developed. We conducted this study to evaluate the clinical outcome of shoulder instability with respect to different diagnostic possibilities and surgical treatments. READ MORE

  5. 20. Synovial metabolism after different degrees of trauma : effects of pharmacological and physiological intervention : a microdialysis study of the knee joint synovium

    Author : Anders Stålman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Knee arthroscopy is one of the most common orthopedic procedures. Postoperative pain and knee swelling is often a problem. Optimal pain management in knee arthroscopic procedures is important to permit same-day discharge and to contribute to early mobilisation, reduced cost and increased patient satisfaction. READ MORE
