  1. 6. Controlling Charge and Energy Transfer Processes in Artificial Photosynthesis : From Picosecond to Millisecond Dynamics

    Author : Magnus Borgström; Leif Hammarström; Jan Davidsson; Sebastiano Campagna; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Artificial photosynthesis; Electron transfer; Energy transfer; Ruthenium; Manganese; Charge-separated state; Donor-acceptor; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes an interdisciplinary project, where the aim is to mimic the initial reactions in photosynthesis. In photosynthesis, the absorption of light is followed by the formation of charge-separated states. The energy stored in these charge-separated states is further used for the oxidation of water and reduction of carbon dioxide. READ MORE

  2. 7. Single and Accumulative Electron Transfer – Prerequisites for Artificial Photosynthesis

    Author : Susanne Karlsson; Leif Hammarström; Hans-Christian Becker; Devens Gust; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Artificial photosynthesis; Photoinduced charge separation; Electron transfer; Energy transfer; Accumulative electon transfer; Donor-acceptor; Ruthenium; Linear arrays; Chemical physics; Kemisk fysik; Kemi med inriktning mot kemisk fysik; Chemistry with specialization in Chemical Physics;

    Abstract : Photoinduced electron transfer is involved in a number of photochemical and photobiological processes. One example of this is photosynthesis, where the absorption of sunlight leads to the formation of charge-separated states by electron transfer. READ MORE

  4. 9. Catalysts for Oxygen Production and Utilization : Closing the Oxygen Cycle: From Biomimetic Oxidation to Artificial Photosynthesis

    Author : Erik Karlsson; Jan-Erling Bäckvall; Björn Åkermark; Jerker Mårtensson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; oxygen; catalytic oxidation; biomimetic oxidation; artificial photosynthesis; water oxidation; DFT calculations; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the development and study of catalysts for redox reactions, which either utilize oxygen or hydrogen peroxide for the purpose of selectively oxidizing organic substrates, or produce oxygen as the necessary byproduct in the production of hydrogen by artificial photosynthesis.The first chapter gives a general introduction about the use of environmentally friendly oxidants in the field of organic synthesis, and about the field of artificial photosynthesis. 5. 10. Electron and Energy Transfer in Supramolecular Complexes Designed for Artificial Photosynthesis

    Author : Helena Berglund Baudin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; artificial photosynthesis; electron transfer; energy transfer; ruthenium; manganese; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; Physical Chemistry; fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : In the society of today the need for alternative energy sources is increasing. The construction of artificial devices for the conversion of sunlight into electricity or fuel seems very attractive from an environmental point of view, since these devices are based on processes that does not necessarily generate any harmful biproducts.
