1. Tree Species Classification : Analyzing Multitemporal Satellite Imagery and Multispectral Airborne Laser Scanning Data
Abstract : Tree species composition of forests affects the whole ecosystem and is part of the information needed for an efficient planning of forest management. This thesis explores how recent developments in remote sensing can provide more accurate tree species mapping. READ MORE

2. Ecological interactions in human modified landscapes : Landscape dependent remedies for the maintenance of biodiversity and ecosystem services
Abstract : Modern agricultural practices have led to an intensification of the agricultural landscape which has negatively affected both biodiversity and the ecosystem services it provides. In my thesis I have used ecological theory of optimal foraging to try and explain how landscape structure, landscape composition and agricultural management can explain the loss of biodiversity and how remedies can efficiently be implemented. 3. Magnetic properties of transition metal compounds and superlattices
Abstract : Magnetic properties of selected compounds and superlattices have been experimentally studied using SQUID (superconducting quantum interference device) and VSM (vibrating sample magnetometer) magnetometry, neutron diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy measurements combined with theoretical ab initio calculations. The magnetic compounds (Fe1-xMx)3P, M=Co or Mn have been studied extensively. READ MORE
