1. Estrogen and aryl hydrocarbon receptor signaling
Abstract : The biological effects of estrogens are mediated by the two estrogen receptor (ER) isoforms, ERa and ERb. The ERs are ligand-inducible transcription factors that belong to the nuclear receptor (NR) superfamily. Ligand-activated ERs bind to specific DNA elements in promoters of target genes, thereby inducing transcription. READ MORE

2. Computational methods for analyzing dioxin-like compounds and identifying potential aryl hydrocarbon receptor ligands : multivariate studies based on human and rodent in vitro data
Abstract : Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins/dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are omnipresent and persistent environmental pollutants. In particular, 29 congeners are of special concern, and these are usually referred to as dioxin-like compounds (DLCs). READ MORE

3. Genetic, environmental and life-style effects on androgen receptor function
Abstract : Androgens regulate male reproductive function and their effects are mediated through the androgen receptor (AR). The AR gene contains a polymorphic CAG repeat, encoding a stretch of glutamines, affecting the transcriptional activity of the AR. READ MORE

4. Influence of oxidative stress on aryl hydrocarbon receptor signaling
Abstract : The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR), a multifunctional protein and a key regulator of drug metabolizing enzymes, belongs to the basic-helix-loop-helix (bHLH)/PAS (Per-Arnt-Sim) super-family of transcription factors. The AHR responds to exogenous and endogenous chemicals by induction or repression of a large number of genes involved in many physiological processes and normal development. READ MORE

5. Synthesis of indoles, bisindoles and indolocarbazoles : high affinity aryl hydrocarbon receptor ligands
Abstract : This thesis deals with the synthesis and reactions of indoles, bisindoles, indolocarbazoles and their derivatives. New methods for ring formation of planar, heterocyclic quinones, with the indolo[3,2b]carbazole or indolo[2,3-b]carbazole structures are described. READ MORE
