  1. 6. Co-firing complex biomass in a CFB boiler : ash transformation, corrosion control and materials selection

    Author : Henrik Hagman; Dan Boström; Rainer Backman; Mats Lundberg; Lars-Erik Åmand; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ash transformation; process control; equilibrium calculations; boiler availability; failures; alloy selection; alloy degradation; vortex finder VF ; service life estimation; sulfation; chloridation; high temperature corrosion; biomass; waste derived fuels; forest residues; RDF; Biomal; slaughterhouse waste; peat; waste wood; industrial waste water treatment sludge; HAD; RSMT; Alloy 253MA; Alloy 310S; Alloy 800H HT; Alloy DS; Alloy 600;

    Abstract : The effects of greenhouse gas net emissions on global warming, stricter legislation on waste handling, and the pursuit of ever cheaper heat- and power production are all important factors driving the introduction of complex fuels in incineration plants. However - without fundamental knowledge regarding ash transformation, corrosion control, and materials selection – this introduction of potentially economically and environmentally beneficial fuels, might instead cause economic loss and environmentally adverse effects. 2. 7. Removal of Natural Organic Matter and Control of Trihalomethanes Formation in Water Treatment

    Author : Herbert Mpagi Kalibbala; Elzbieta Plaza; Olle Wahlberg; Rose Kaggwa; Stein Wold Osterhus; KTH; []
    Keywords : Water treatment; pumice; roughing filtration; trihalomethanes; coagulant aid; volcanic ash; Vattenrening; pimpsten; grovfiltrering; trihalometaner; koaguleringsmedel; vulkanaska;

    Abstract : Volcanic ash, pumice and Moringa oleifera (M. oleifera) were investigated as indigenous materials for removal of natural organic matter (NOM) at Kampala and Masaka water treatment plants in Uganda. READ MORE

  3. 8. Greenhouse gas fluxes between drained forested peatlands and the atmosphere - influence of nutrient status and wood ash fertilization

    Author : Maria Ernfors; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; greenhouse gases; peatlands wood; ash; nutrient status;

    Abstract : The management of peatlands for wood production involves drainage and, sometimes, fertilization with, for example, wood ash. The effects of these measures on greenhouse gas fluxes, in relation to the ... READ MORE

  4. 9. Development and Evaluation of a Filter-Bed-Based System for Full-Scale Treatment of Industrial Landfill Leachate

    Author : Pille Kängsepp; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organic and inorganic pollutants; Landfill; shredder residue; vertical-flow filter bed; pond; leachate treatment; carbon-containing ash; peat;

    Abstract : It is well known that nature offers an abundance of materials and processes that can be adapted in low-tech fashion, to fabricate systems capable of removing pollutants from wastewater. During the last decade, extensive basic and engineering research on such natural treatment systems have led to improvement of the quality of discharged wastewaters. READ MORE

  5. 10. Alternative Adsorption Materials for Treatment of Contaminated Waters

    Author : Yuliya Kalmykova; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adsorption; Sphagnum peat; Heavy metals; Fiber ash;

    Abstract : The thesis presents a study of adsorbent materials for treatment of contaminated waters and remediation of contaminated soils. Natural and waste product materials showed high adsorption capacity for metals and organic pollutants and proved to be a good alternative to commercial adsorbents. READ MORE
