  1. 1. Dry Classification of Fine Aggregates for Concrete and Asphalt

    Author : Robert Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; concrete; asphalt; classification; aggregate;

    Abstract : Aggregate is defined as particles of rock which in combination are used as a civil engineering material. It is used in bounded form in asphalt and concrete. Historically natural sand has been used as fine aggregate for concrete production in Sweden. READ MORE

  2. 2. Influence of waxes on bitumen and asphalt concrete mixture performance

    Author : Ylva Edwards; Ulf Isacsson; Klaus-Werner Damm; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bitumen; asphalt; additives; wax in bitumen; polyphosphoric acid in bitumen; rheology; IR-spectroscopy; dynamic mechanic analysis DMA ; bending beam rheometer BBR ; literature study; low temperature physical hardening; highway materials; morphology; modified bitumens; temperature susceptibility; low temperature performance; ageing; microscopy; chromatography; Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy; force ductility; conventional binder tests; asphalt performance; tensile strain restrained specimen test TSRST ; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis consists of a literature review, presented in two papers, and another six papers describing experimental studies of the influence of different kinds of wax and polyphosporic acid on bitumen and asphalt concrete mixture properties. The literature review should give an extensive description of the field of knowledge concerning wax in bitumen. READ MORE

  3. 3. Resonance Testing of Asphalt Concrete

    Author : Anders Gudmarsson; Nils Rydén; Björn Birgisson; Mihai Marasteanu; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Resonance frequencies; Modal testing; Frequency response functions; Cyclic loading; Tension-compression tests; Complex modulus; Complex Poisson’s ratio;

    Abstract : This thesis present novel non-destructive laboratory test methods to characterize asphalt concrete. The testing is based on frequency response measurements of specimens where resonance frequencies play a key role to derive material properties such as the complex modulus and complex Poisson’s ratio. 4. 4. Mechanistic-Empirical Modeling of Permanent Deformation in Asphalt Concrete Layers

    Author : Erik Oscarsson; Trafik och väg; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; permanent deformation; modeling; Mechanistic-Empirical; rutting; asphalt concrete; full-scale pavements;

    Abstract : Three mechanistic-empirical permanent deformation models were evaluated under Swedish conditions with respect to traffic, climate and materials using accelerated pavement testing and long-term pavement performance studies. The mechanistic-empirical pavement design guide (M E PDG), the incremental-recursive mechanistic-empirical CalME model (CalME), and the PErmanent Deformation of asphalt concrete layer for ROads (PEDRO) model generally showed both useful features and limitations. 5. 5. Application of Automated Non-contact Resonance Testing for Low Temperature Behavior of Asphalt Concrete

    Author : Abiy Bekele; Nils Ryden; Safwat Said; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Resonance testing; stiffness modulus; asphalt concrete; Non-contact excitation; Resonance frequency; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Abstract : Impact resonance testing is a well-documented non-destructive testing method and its applications on asphalt concrete have also been implemented successfully. The test is carried out manually by inducing an impact in order to excite the test specimen and taking measurements of the vibrational response. READ MORE
