  1. 1. Molecular Recognition in Antibody Engineering. Studies on recombinant and phage displayed antibodies

    Author : Ann-Christin Malmborg Hager; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transplantation; affinity; antibody; kinetic; Immunologi; serologi; serology; Immunology; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; library; selection; surface display; phage display; association rate; dissociation rate;

    Abstract : In vitro generation of antibody fragments of desired specificity and affinity plays an important role since it permits the generation of reagents which may be valuable for diagnostic and therapeutic applications. Furthermore, the kinetic parameters for an antibody-antigen interaction, rather than the affinity, has shown to correlate with biological functions like virus neutralization. READ MORE

  2. 2. Early assessment of efficacy and safety of novel anticoagulants as exemplified by direct thrombin inhibitors. Non-clinical pharmacodynamic studies in vitro and in vivo

    Author : Margareta Elg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; animals; antidote; bleeding; inhibition constant; inogatran; association rate constant; melagatran; thrombin inhibitor; thrombosis; fibrinolysis;

    Abstract : The drawbacks of today's anticoagulants are parenteral use (heparins), a narrow interval between efficacy and bleeding, and the high variability of effect with a consequent need for frequent monitoring (coumarins). The aim of the current studies was to evaluate properties important for efficacy and safety of novel anticoagulants, as exemplified by direct thrombin inhibitors, with non-clinical methods. 3. 3. Quantum dynamical effects in complex chemical systems

    Author : S. Karl-Mikael Svensson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantum dynamics; Radiative association; Classical Wigner method; Feynman path integral; Reaction rate constants; Wigner phase space;

    Abstract : When using mathematical models to computationally investigate a chemical system it is important that the methods used are accurate enough to account for the relevant properties of the system and at the same time simple enough to be computationally affordable. This thesis presents research that so far has resulted in three published papers and one unpublished manuscript. READ MORE

  4. 4. Electrochemical Studies of Quinonoid Compounds for Aqueous Organic Redox Flow Batteries

    Author : Cedrik Wiberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Redox Flow Batteries; Naphthalene Diimides; Self-Association; Quinones; Electrochemistry;

    Abstract : In the current times of uncertainty in face of climate change, sustainable energy-related technologies are developed with urgency. A candidate of special interest is Aqueous Organic Redox Flow Batteries (AORFB), whose utility depends heavily on the organic molecules used. READ MORE

  5. 5. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass as treatment of morbid obesity

    Author : Anna Laurenius; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Roux-en-Y gastric bypass; dietary energy density; food choice; meal size; eating rate; meal pattern; eating behavior; dumping syndrome; construct validity; hypoglycemia;

    Abstract : Background and aims: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is now a common treatment for obesity with well-documented effects on long-term weight reduction, health-related quality of life, obesity-related morbidity and mortality. There is a need for a better understanding of changes in dietary intake and meal-related symptoms after RYGB. READ MORE
