    Keywords : Building materials; multi-objective optimisation; genetic algorithms; evolutionary architecture; material phase transitions; generative LCA; parametric epistemic things; presilience; postponism; anticipation; adaptation; simulation; Grasshopper; Byggnadsmaterial; flermålsop2mering; gene2ska algoritmer; evolu2onär arkitektur; materialbaserade fasövergångar; genera2v LCA; parametriska epistemiska 2ng; presiliens; postponism; antecipa2on; adap2on; simulering; Grasshopper; Building Materials; Byggnadsmaterial;

    Abstract : This thesis is an investigation into how meta-heuristic multi-objective optimisation processes (genetic algorithms driven by evolutionary solvers) can bring about materials-related advantages in architectural performance. It redefines the architect’s and engineer’s role from being designers of a singular space or structure to being designers of entire species of spaces, and discusses a particular method – anticipatory adaptive assemblages (AAA) – that allows such processes to produce many generations of design iterations that eventually yield individuals optimised for a set of predefined objectives. 2. 22. Evolution of mate signalling in moths: Biosynthetic gene families and diversification of female sex pheromones

    Author : Marjorie Liénard; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; duplication; transcriptome; fatty-acyl-CoA reductase; fatty-acyl-CoA desaturase; fatty-acid biosynthesis; odour; insect; Lepidoptera; phylogeny; qPCR; heterologous expression; mutagenesis;

    Abstract : Pheromones are intraspecific chemical signals serving as a ubiquitous form of communication, particularly among insects. Female sex-pheromone signals act as the core constituent in the specialized odour-mediated moth mate-recognition system. Female moths typically release multicomponent mixtures of alcohols, aldehydes or acetates. READ MORE

    Abstract : The regeneration of damaged tissues or organs using porous scaffolds which act as temporary guides for the patient’s own cells, i.e. tissue engineering, is a means to overcome the shortcomings of current standard medical treatments. READ MORE

  4. 24. Adatoms, Quasiparticles & Photons : The Multifaceted World of Photoelectron Spectroscopy

    Author : Martin Månsson; Ulf Otto Karlsson; Oscar Tjernberg; Maria Carmen Asensio; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy; electronic structure; electron dynamics; semiconductor surfaces; oxides; high-temperature superconductors; Material physics with surface physics; Materialfysik med ytfysik;

    Abstract : The experimental work presented in this thesis is based on a wide assortment of very advanced and highly sophisticated photoelectron spectroscopy (PES) techniques. The objective of the present study has been to reveal and understand the electronic structure and electron dynamics in a broad spectrum of materials, ranging from wide band gap oxides, via semiconductors along with metals, and finally high-temperature superconductors.
