  1. 1. Thermal physics of asteroids

    Author : Johan S. V. Lagerros; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; asteroids; infrared emission; thermophysical models; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; astronomi; Astronomy;

    Abstract : The thermal infrared and microwave emission from asteroids have many applications. Fundamental physical properties can be investigated, which have implications for the geophysical evolution of the asteroids, and the early history of the solar system.A new thermophysical model of asteroids is presented. 2. 2. The Dynamical Spin Vector Evolution of the Asteroids

    Author : Erik Skoglöv; Karri Muinonen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; asteroids; Eros; Ceres; Vesta; dynamics; rotation; rotational dynamics; orbits; resonances; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; astronomi; Astronomy;

    Abstract : The dynamical evolution of the spin axis direction due to gravitational and thermal factors is examined. It is found that the spin axis variations generally are regular and relatively small for the bodies in the asteroid main belt. There are also reasons to believe that this is the case for minor objects beyond the main belt. READ MORE

  3. 3. From meteors to space safety : dynamical models and radar measurements of space objects

    Author : Daniel Kastinen; Johan Kero; Asta Pellinen-Wannberg; Mats Holmström; Detlef Koschny; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Meteors; meteor shower; atmosphere; meteoroids; meteoroid stream; small-body dynamics; solar system; comets; asteroids; near-Earth objects; space safety; space debris; radar; MU; EISCAT;

    Abstract : Every day the Earth's atmosphere is bombarded by 10-200 metric tons of dust-sized particles and larger pieces of material from space called meteoroids. Dust and meteoroids come from parent bodies such as comets and asteroids, which are remnants from the formation of the solar system. READ MORE

  5. 5. Laser Interaction with Minerals Common on Asteroids

    Author : Niklas Anthony; Mikael Granvik; Christina Wanhainen; Olle Norberg; Christopher Dreyer; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Onboard space systems; Rymdtekniska system;

    Abstract : Asteroids are worth studying for three reasons: planetary protection, industrial applications, and scientific knowledge. It is critical we develop technologies capable of diverting objects on collision courses with our planet. READ MORE
