  1. 1. Extracellular Matrix Alterations in Patients with Different Phenotypes of Asthma

    Author : Maria Weitoft; Lungbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Asthma; Extraceullar matrix; Proteoglycan; Collagen; Hyaluronan; Fibrocyte; Mast cell; Nitric oxide;

    Abstract : AbstractAsthma is a chronic disease that affects approximately 300 million people worldwide, and the prevalence is increasing. It has become clear that asthma is a highly heterogeneous disease, with overlapping symptoms but with diverse immunopathology and clinical phenotypes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Exahaled NO and small airway function in asthma and cystic fibrosis

    Author : Christina Keen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; asthma; exhaled NO; children; cystic fibrosis; flow independent exhaled nitric oxide; multiple breath inert gas washout; polyunsaturated fatty acids;

    Abstract : Background: Asthma and cystic fibrosis (CF) are chronic inflammatory airway disorders known to involve the peripheral airways. Non-invasive tests sensitive to peripheral airway function and inflammation are therefore of high priority. READ MORE

  3. 3. The relationship between inflammation and structural changes in the airways of the lower and upper respiratory tract : Studies in patients with asthma, Sjögren's syndrome, rhinitis and children with otitis media with effusion

    Author : Kawa Amin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; bronchial hyperresponsiveness; inflammatory cells; asthma; rhinitis; Sjögren s syndrome; children with otitis media with effusion; immunohistochemistry; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Abstract : The pathophysiology of asthma, Sjögrens syndrome (SS), rhinitis, and otitis media with effusion (OME) in children has been extensively investigated in upper and lower respiratory tract, respectively, and shown to comprise structural changes in the airways and involvement of inflammatory cells. By comparing diseases that have bronchial hyperresponsivenses or mucosal inflammation as a common denominator, it may be possible to learn more about the mechanisms underlying inflammation in the upper and lower respiratory tract. 4. 4. Lung mechanics and airway inflammation in murine models of asthma

    Author : Sofia Jonasson; Josephine Hjoberg; Hedenstierna Göran; Carl Persson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; allergic asthma; airway inflammation; murine models; lung mechanics; forced oscillation technique; airway reactivity; deep inhalations; oxidative stress; nitric oxide; glucocorticoids.; Clinical physiology; Klinisk fysiologi; klinisk fysiologi; Clinical Physiology;

    Abstract : Allergic asthma is an inflammatory disease of the airways and is characterized by eosinophilic inflammation and increased airway reactivity. In the studies presented in this thesis, lung mechanics and measurements of airway reactivity were assessed in anaesthetized tracheostomized mice by using an animal ventilator (flexiVent®). 5. 5. Study of biomarkers for improved diagnosis and therapy monitoring in young asthmatics

    Author : Nikolaos Tsolakis; Kjell Alving; Lennart Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Asthma phenotypes; IgE sensitization; atopy; cat allergen components; exhaled NO; airway hyper-responsiveness; lung function; asthma-related quality of life.;

    Abstract : Background: Type-2 asthma is often related to atopy and is characterized by elevated type-2 biomarkers. However, less is known about the pathophysiology of non-type 2 asthma, factors associated therewith, and the stability of different asthma phenotypes over time. READ MORE
