  1. 1. Gene expression studies in human astrocytoma, with emphasis on oncostatin M induced effects

    Author : Annika Krona; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2006]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Brain tumors; astrocytoma; glioblastoma multiforme; oncostatin M OSM ; STAT; microarray;

    Abstract : Brain tumors comprise about one percent of all cancers and astrocytoma is the most common primary brain malignancy. According to the World Health Organization system, the astrocytomas are divided into four grades according to degree of malignancy. Grade I, pilocytic astrocytoma (PA), is the least malignant form and most often affects children. READ MORE

  2. 2. Preoperative MRI and PET in suspected low-grade gliomas Radiological, neuropathological and clinical intersections

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Anna Falk Delgado; Uppsala universitet.; [2015]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Low-grade glioma; MRI; PET; FA; MD; Perfusion; Diffusion; Neuropathology; Oligodendroglioma; Astrocytoma; PET; tractography; DTI; DTT; Radiology; Radiologi;

    Abstract : Background: Gliomas are neuroepithelial tumours classified by cell type and grade. In adults, low-grade gliomas are comprised mainly of astrocytomas and oligodendrogliomas grade II. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Identification and Characterisation of LRIG Gene Family and Its Expression in Astrocytic Tumours

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Dongsheng Guo; Umeå universitet.; Umeå universitet.; [2004]
    Keywords : astrocytoma; brain; EGFR; LRIG; leucine-rich repeat; real-time RT-PCR; onkologi; Oncology;

    Abstract : Gliomas are the most common primary brain tumours, and their capacity to invade surrounding normal brain prevents complete removal of the tumour. Malignant glioma has still a poor prognosis. However, with the rapid development of molecular biology our understanding about glioma has increased dramatically. READ MORE

  4. 4. Qualities in the short life psychological studies relevant to patient and spouse in malignant glioma

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå Universitet

    Author : Pär Salander; Umeå universitet.; [1996]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; astrocytoma; communication; coping; defence mechanism; denial; glioma; hope; memory; neuropsychology; quality of life; spouse;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with psychological issues concerning patients with malignant gliomas, and their spouses. There is no known medical cure, and the patients have a limited survival expectancy. Therefore studies evaluating new treatment modes, an overall supportive atmosphere, and attempts to avoid imposing unnessesary strain are necessary. READ MORE

  5. 5. 201Thallium SPECT; accuracy in astrocytoma diagnosis and treatment evaluation

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå Universitet

    Author : Kristina Källén; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [1999]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The aims of the studies included in this thesis were:• to investigate the reliability of 201thallium single photon emission computed tomography (201Tl SPECT) for preoperative diagnosis and histological staging of malignant astrocytomas in comparison with CT; • to develop a method for quantification of cerebral thallium uptake, and to evaluate the quantitative measurement in comparison with CT, for astrocytoma treatment follow-up purposes; • to compare quantitative 201Tl SPECT and proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS) with conventional MR imaging for astrocytoma monitoring, and to evaluate associations between change of morphological tumour characteristics during treatment and changes of cerebral thallium uptake and metabolic ratios. Results and conclusions:• High 201Tl-index, calculated as a ratio comparing tumour uptake to uptake in the contralateral hemisphere, is an indicator of highly malignant astrocytoma. READ MORE
