16. Asymptotic analysis of junctions in multi-structures
Abstract : A multi-structure is a compound domain that consists of several substructures such as solid bodies, thin shells and slender rods. In this thesis we consider different mixed boundary value problems in multi-structures. In the formulations of these problems a small perturbation parameter c is introduced, e.g. READ MORE

17. On the breakdown of regularity of invariant curves in quasi-periodically forced systems
Abstract : In this thesis we study the process of torus collisions in one-parameter families of quasi-periodically forced dynamical systems. Specifically, we study the process whereby two invariant curves (homeomorphic to circles), one attracting and one repelling, bifurcate into a strange non-chaotic attractor. READ MORE

18. Pores, inclusions and electromagnetic stirring : Topics from the continuous casting of steel
Abstract : This thesis deals with two topics of relevance to the continuous casting of steel,in view of their importance as regards the quality of the final solidified structure. The first concerns the precipitation of gas pores and inclusions in the interden-dritic region of the solidifying metal. 19. Modelling and inference of relative collision safety in cars
Abstract : We propose a new mathematical model for relative collision safety in cars. Our present research is restricted to head-on crashes between two cars and we try to determine how much of the injury risk in a crash that depends on car model. The relative risks include the driver populations of the different car models. READ MORE

20. Some new results in homogenization of flow in porous media with mixed boundary condition
Abstract : The present thesis is devoted to derivation of Darcy’s Law for incompressible Newtonian fluid in perforated domains by means of homogenization techniques. The problem of describing flow in porous media occurs in the study of various physical phenomena such as filtration in sandy soils, blood circulation in capillaries etc. READ MORE
