  1. 1. Arctic Atmospheric Rivers : Eulerian and Lagrangian features, and trends over the last 40 years

    Author : Cheng You; Michael Tjernström; Abhay Devasthale; Heikki Järvinen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; Atmospheric river; Stratocumulus; Blocking; Turbulence; Longwave irradiance; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : Arctic Atmospheric rivers, termed ‘warm-and-moist intrusion’ (WaMAI) in this thesis, transporting heat and moisture into the Arctic from lower latitudes, is a key contributor to the amplified warming in the Arctic under global change (Arctic Amplification). However, the warming effect of WaMAIs and its transformation along the trajectories into high Arctic still remain unclear, as well as their relation with the large-scale atmospheric circulation. 2. 2. Analytical Aspects of Atmospheric Pressure Ionisation in Mass Spectrometry

    Author : C. Fredrik Bökman; J. David Pinkston; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The actual signal recorded with an analytical instrument is not always a true reflection of the analysed sample. In this thesis a further insight of the atmospheric pressure ionisation processes electrospray (ESI) and atmospheric pressure chemical ionisation (APCI) has been endeavoured, to provide a deeper understanding of and ways to minimize this bias. 3. 3. Properties and Origin of Arctic Aerosols

    Author : Ann-Christine Engvall; Jörg Gumbel; Frode Stordal; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic aerosols; Arctic troposphere; air-mass transport; Atmosphere and hydrosphere sciences; Atmosfärs- och hydrosfärsvetenskap; atmosfärvetenskap; Atmospheric Sciences;

    Abstract : The present thesis deals with the origin and physics of aerosols in the Arctic atmosphere. These show a large annual variability due to changes of the photochemical and cloud processes as well as of the synoptic-scale atmospheric pressure patterns. READ MORE

  4. 4. Improving the understanding of cloud radiative heating

    Author : Erik Johansson; Abhay Devasthale; Michael Tjernström; Annica M. L. Ekman; Robert Pincus; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; clouds; radiative effects; upper troposphere-lower stratosphere; atmospheric circulation; remote sensing; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : Clouds play an essential role in regulating Earth’s radiation budget by reflecting and absorbing energy at different spectra. As they interact with radiation, they can radiatively heat or cool the adjacent atmosphere and the surface. READ MORE

  5. 5. Applications of nanospray desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry : In situ lipid and metabolite analysis from cells to tissue

    Author : Hilde-Marléne Bergman; Ingela Lanekoff; Jonas Bergquist; Martina Marchetti-Deschmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mass spectrometry; mass spectrometry imaging MSI ; nanospray desorption electrospray ionization nano-DESI ; single-cell analysis; neurotransmitter imaging; diabetic nephropathy; pneumatic nebulization; lipidomics; metabolomics; Kemi med inriktning mot analytisk kemi; Chemistry with specialization in Analytical Chemistry;

    Abstract : Ambient mass spectrometry (MS) has proved to be an important addition to the bioanalytical toolbox. These methods perform analyte sampling and ionization under atmospheric pressure, and require very little sample preparation other than the sampling process in front of the machine. READ MORE
