11. Microstructure of Carbon Fibres for Multifunctional Composites: 3D Distribution and Configuration of Atoms
Abstract : Lightweight energy storage is a must for increased driving range of electric vehicles. “Mass-less” energy storage can be achieved by directly storing energy in structural components. READ MORE

12. Experimental study of phase separation in Fe-Cr based alloys
Abstract : Duplex stainless steels (DSSs) are important engineering materials due to their combination of good mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. However, as a consequence of their ferrite content, DSSs are sensitive to the so-called ‘475°C embrittlement’, which is induced by phase separation, namely, the ferrite decomposed into Fe-rich ferrite (α) and Cr-rich ferrite (α'), respectively. 13. Thermodynamic and Kinetic Investigation of the Fe-Cr-Ni System Driven by Engineering Applications
Abstract : This work is a thermodynamic and kinetic study of the Fe-Cr-Ni system as the core of stainless steels. The Fe-Cr, Fe-Ni and Cr-Ni systems were studied intensively using both computational and experimental techniques, including CALPHAD (CALculation of PHAse Diagrams), phase field simulation, ab initio modeling, calorimetry, and atom probe tomography. 14. Evolution of WC-Co cemented carbide microstructure during creep testing
Abstract : The aim of this work is to understand the mechanisms behind the plastic deformation of WC-Co based cemented carbides. The microstructures of two materials have been investigated before and after creep deformation using quantitative microscopy, atom probe tomography, and transmission electron microscopy. READ MORE

15. Nanostructuring and Age Hardening in TiSCN, ZrAlN, and TiAlN Thin Films
Abstract : This thesis explores nanostructuring in TiSiCN, ZrAlN, and TiAlN thin films deposited by cathodic arc evaporation onto cemented carbide substrates, with intended applications for cutting tools. The three systems were found to exhibit age hardening upon annealing, by different mechanisms, into the superhard regime (≥30 GPa), as determined by a combination of electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, atom probe tomography, erda, and nanoindentation tech- niques.
