  1. 21. Electron - Ion Recombination Data for Plasma Applications : Results from Electron Beam Ion Trap and Ion Storage Ring

    Author : Safdar Ali; Reinhold Schuch; José R. Crespo López-Urrutia; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Highly charged ions; Atomic processes; Atomic data; Electron-ion recombination; Plasmas; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis contains results of electron-ion recombination processes in atomic ions relevant for plasma applications. The measurements were performed at the Stockholm Refrigerated Electron Beam Ion Trap (R-EBIT) and at the CRYRING heavy-ion storage ring. READ MORE

  2. 22. SMILETRAP I / II : Precision Improvements in Penning-Trap Mass-Spectrometry

    Author : Markus Suhonen Linné; Reinhold Schuch; Lutz Schweikhard; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Penning trap; Mass spectrometers; Instrumentation and methods for time-of-flight TOF spectroscopy; Highly charged ions; Atomic physics; Atomfysik; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the final precision mass measurements with SMILETRAP I, where a relative precision of < 1 ppb (10-9) was reached routinely, and the development of SMILETRAP II, aiming for measurements with < 0.1 ppb relative precision. READ MORE

  3. 23. Guiding of highly charged ions through insulating nanocapillaries

    Author : Hongqiang Zhang; Reinhold Schuch; Amine Cassimi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik; Atomic physics; Atomfysik; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis contains experimental work on guiding of highly charged ions through insulating nanocapillaries. We have studied the time evolution of angular distributions of transmitted ions under well defined initial conditions: already charged, as well as fully discharged nanocapillaries, by using a two-dimensional position sensitive Micro Channel Plate detector with a data acquisition system working in event mode. 4. 24. Multiscale modeling of atomic transport phenomena in ferritic steels

    Author : Luca Messina; Pär Olsson; Nils Sandberg; Pål Efsing; Pascal Bellon; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diffusion; impurities; iron; metals; kinetic Monte Carlo; ab initio; mean field; defects; embrittlement; reactor pressure vessel; neural networks; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Defect-driven transport of impurities plays a key role in the microstructure evolution of alloys, and has a great impact on the mechanical properties at the macroscopic scale. This phenomenon is greatly enhanced in irradiated materials because of the large amount of radiation-induced crystal defects (vacancies and interstitials). READ MORE

  5. 25. Atomic Scale Design of Clean Energy Materials : Efficient Solar Energy Conversion and Gas Sensing

    Author : Jawad Nisar; Rajeev Ahuja; Puru Jena; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photocatalysts; Band gap narrowing; Water dissociation; Density functional theory; Gas sensing; Kaolinite; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : The focus of this doctoral thesis is the atomic level design of photocatalysts and gas sensing materials. The band gap narrowing in the metal oxides for the visible-light driven photocatalyst as well as the interaction of water and gas molecules on the reactive surfaces of metal oxides and the electronic structure of kaolinite has been studied by the state-of-art calculations.
