  1. 16. Metachromatic cells and eosinophils in atopic children : A prospective study

    Author : Magnus Persson Borres; Göran Karlsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Metachromatic cells and eosinophil leukocytes were studied prospectively in 64 newborns with and without a family history of atopic disease (FH). Cellfindings in nasal mucosa and peripheral blood were related to development of atopic symptoms up to 18 months of age. For this purpose, a gentle scraping method suitable for infants was developed. 2. 17. Genetic studies of candidate genes in eczema

    Author : Elisabeth Ekelund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Eczema is a common inflammatory skin disorder characterised by itching and relapsing eczematous lesions. It usually presents in early childhood and affects about 10-20% of all children. The background is multifactorial, with both environmental risk factors and hereditary factors contributing to the development of the disease. READ MORE

  3. 18. Gene expression and genetic association studies in eczema

    Author : Agne Liedén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Eczema is an itching relapsing and often chronic inflammatory skin disorder associated with cutaneous hyper reactivity to environmental triggers that are innocuous to normal individuals. The differentiation of epidermal keratinocytes leads to the formation of a physical barrier and together with appropriate innate immune responses produce a functional epidermal barrier protecting us against a number of detrimental factors in the external environment. 4. 19. Atopic dermatitis : clinical and epidemiological aspects in children up to four years

    Author : Maria Böhme; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Atopy; childhood; criteria; eczema; heredity; IgE; infections; prevention; sensitisation; severity;

    Abstract : Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a pruritic, chronically relapsing inflammatory skin disease; its aetiology is presumed to be multifactorial with interactions between genetic and environmental factors. In recent decades the prevalence of AD has increased remarkably, most likely due to environmental factors in early life. READ MORE

  5. 20. More or Less IgE : Therapeutic Vaccines, Adjuvants and Genes and Their Effect on IgE Levels

    Author : Anna Ledin; Lars Hellman; Kjell-Olov Grönvik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; IgE; Immunoglobulin; Atopic allergy; Vaccine; Adjuvant; Dog; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is an important mediator in atopic allergies. This thesis describes the development of a therapeutic vaccine against IgE and its effects in rats and dogs. The development of an assay to determine IgE levels in dogs, and the finding of a chromosome region in rats that affects IgE levels are also reported. READ MORE
