11. Cellular electrophysiological modulation in chronic atrial fibrillation - Studies with magnesium and GIK solution
Abstract : Although chronic atrial fibrillation (CAF) is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia in man, the mechanisms involved in its progressive course are still not fully understood. Recent studies have verified an electrical remodelling of the atrial myocardium that may be responsible for the electrophysiological disturbances known to exist in the fibrillating atria. READ MORE

12. Biomarkers of inflammation in atrial fibrillation
Abstract : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is common and associated with increased risk of stroke, heart failure (HF) and mortality. Inflammation is linked to AF.The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate inflammatory activity and cardiovascular outcomes and mortality in patients with AF on effective oral anticoagulation. 13. Insights into left atrial response to pressure and volume overload
Abstract : The general purpose of this thesis is to establish the ability of Speckle Tracking Echocardiography (STE) in assessing left atrial (LA) response to pressure and volume overload respectively in aortic stenosis (AS) and mitral regurgitation (MR), and to evaluate its accuracy in predicting LA and right ventricular (RV) fibrosis in patients with end-stage heart failure (HF) undergoing heart transplantation (HTx).I demonstrated that assessment of left ventricular (LV) long axis systolic velocity and amplitude of excursion is more sensitive than simple determination of ejection fraction (EF) for revealing the beneficial impact of MR surgery on overall LV systolic performance. 15. Exploration of Supraventricular Conduction with respect to Atrial Fibrillation. Methodological Aspects on Selected Techniques
Abstract : Atrial fibrillation is the most common cardiac arrhythmia that demands medical attention. Computer-based detailed analysis of cardiac electrical signals from healthy subjects and patients with a history of atrial fibrillation has become an important tool in the further clarification of this disease.
