  1. 1. Metabolic impact of certain dietary proteins and/or amino acids - Glycaemic and hormonal responses to carbohydrate meals in healthy subject

    Author : Ulrika Gunnerud; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Amino acids; dietary protein; glycaemic regulation; insulin; incretins;

    Abstract : Re-occurring hyperglycaemic episodes promote subclinical low-grade inflammation and CVD in type 2 diabetes, emphasising the therapeutic role of tight blood glucose regulation. A tight blood glucose regulation is probably beneficial also in healthy subjects and mild elevations in postprandial glycaemia and triglycerides are associated with impaired flow-mediated dilation and increased markers of oxidative stress in young healthy subjects. 2. 2. Novel aspects of metabolic regulation and inflammation in human adipocytes

    Author : Annie Pettersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The significance of adipose tissue and obesity has been recognized in numerous pathologies. However, the mechanisms behind this connection are not yet completely understood. READ MORE

  3. 3. Endothelin and the regulation of peripheral and uteroplacental vascular tone during pregnancy

    Author : Gunilla Ajne; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Endothelin; pregnancy; uteroplacental blood flow; peripheral resistance; endothelin receptors;

    Abstract : The mechanism behind the vascular adaptation during pregnancy is poorly understood. The fall in peripheral resistance, particularly in the uterine vasculature, is crucial for sufficient increase in uteroplacental blood flow and thereby for normal fetal growth and development. 4. 4. Regulation of human cell viability by the host defence peptide LL-37

    Author : Daniel Svensson; Kärlfysiologi; []
    Keywords : LL-37; cathelicidin; cytotoxicity; host defence peptides; autoimmune diseases; inflammation; vitamin D;

    Abstract : Accumulating evidence suggests that the main human cathelicidin peptide, LL-37, may influence host cell viability and pro-inflammatory signaling when locally overexpressed. LL-37 has pro-inflammatory properties linked to the development of for example psoriasis, rosacea, SLE and atherosclerosis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Transcription kinetics in pluripotent cells : RNA turnover, transcription velocity, and epigenomic regulation

    Author : Rui Shao; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Transcriptional regulation is one of the primary steps in gene expression control. It is now appreciated that a large fraction of coding genome is transcribed in concert of other functional RNAs. READ MORE
