  1. 1. Acoustical properties of earplugs

    Author : Per Hiselius; Teknisk akustik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Maskinteknik; hydraulik; vakuumteknik; vibrationer; akustik; vibration and acoustic engineering; vacuum technology; hydraulics; Mechanical engineering; acoustic modelling; objective measurement; insertion loss; earplugs; HPE; HPD; hearing protectors; Two-Port; Four-Pole; attenuation; electro acoustics; acoustics;

    Abstract : In this study an experimental setup for measurements of high impedance objects in ducts, yielding the acoustical Two-Port properties of the object, is applied to earplugs. A frequently used experimental setup for measuring objective acoustical properties of earplugs is that of artificial ears. Great effort is spent on duplicating the human ear. READ MORE

  2. 2. Dynamic Characteristics of Floating Breakwaters

    Author : Aurora Xiaomeng Lei; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; floating breakwaters; couplings joints ; dynamic cables; dynamic response; line tension; wave attenuation; wave reflection;

    Abstract : The dynamic behaviour of interconnected floating breakwaters has been studied theoretically and experimentally. For this type of shore-protection system, problems that must be dealt with include wave loads on the breakwaters caused by the interaction between the bodies and the waves, motions of the moored breakwaters caused by the waves, changed wave fields in front of and behind the breakwaters, and forces on the mooring cables and in interconnections between breakwater units. 3. 3. Corrections for improved quantitative accuracy in SPECT and planar scintigraphic imaging

    Author : Anne Larsson; Lennart Johansson; Katrine Åhlström Riklund; Bertil Axelsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Quantitative SPECT; scintigraphic imaging; attenuation correction; scatter correction; collimator-detector response; septal penetration; background correction; Monte Carlo simulation; Radiological physics; Radiofysik;

    Abstract : A quantitative evaluation of single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and planar scintigraphic imaging may be valuable for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. For an accurate quantification it is usually necessary to correct for attenuation and scatter and in some cases also for septal penetration. READ MORE

  4. 4. The attenuation of the P53 response to DNA damage in rodent liver preneoplastic enzyme-altered foci

    Author : Niklas Finnberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Enzyme-altered foci; p53; ATM; diethylnitrosamine; phenobarbital; liver; gene dosage;

    Abstract : In connection with life-time bioassays in rodents, the liver is one of the organs most frequently affected. During the carcinogenic process, single preneoplastic hepatocytes develop into hepatocellular adenoma or carcinoma (HCC). READ MORE

  5. 5. Effects of visual load on auditory processing

    Author : Malina Szychowska; Stefan Wiens; Mats E. Nilsson; Maria Larsson; Inga Griskova-Bulanova; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; EEG; event-related potential; mismatch negativity; auditory steady-state response; envelope following response; perceptual load; visual load; task difficulty; crossmodal attention; early-filter theory; adaptive filtering model; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : In daily life, people need to be able to focus on a task while ignoring any task-irrelevant background noise. For example, people who work in an open-space office may have to work on a report while ignoring the background talk among co-workers. READ MORE
