1. The Effect of Different Perturbations on the Stability Analysis of Light Water Reactors
Abstract : Neutron noise analysis techniques are studied and developed, with primary useof determining the stability of Boiling Water Reactors (BWRs). In particular, the role ofa specific perturbation prevailing in Light Water Reactors, the propagating densityperturbation, in the stability of BWRs and on the noise field of LWRs in general, isinvestigated by considering three topics. 2. On Boolean Functions in Symmetric-Key Ciphers
Abstract : This thesis discusses new results on the design and the existence of cryptographically strong Boolean functions used in the design of stream and block ciphers. By interlinking theoretical results and computer search some open problems have been solved, that is, we have shown the existence of previously unknown classes of functions. READ MORE

3. Properties of heavy rainfall in an East Asian monsoon catchment - Analysis of daily rain gauge data
Abstract : The East Asian monsoon has a strong seasonal effect on the rainfall regime of Eastern China. In order to mitigate floods and conserve the water for use throughout the year, dams and other hydro-structures are built. The design of the structures requires knowledge of the rainfall characteristics that influence the inflow to them. READ MORE

4. Statistical properties of GARCH processes
Abstract : This dissertation contains five chapters. An introduction and a summary of the research are given in Chapter 1. The other four chapters present theoretical results on the moment structure of GARCH processes. Some chapters also contain empirical examples in order to illustrate applications of the theory. 5. Characterisation and Applications of Ultrashort Extreme Ultraviolet Pulses
Abstract : When a strong laser field interacts with free atoms, harmonics up to very high orders are created. This extreme ultraviolet (XUV) radiation has interesting properties, such as spatial and temporal coherence, short pulse duration and high brightness. This thesis concentrates on the temporal aspects of this radiation. READ MORE
