  1. 1. ADP regulation of insulin secretion and beta-cell apoptosis

    Author : Chanyuan Tan; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; P2Y; β-cell; ADP; insulin; apoptosis; autocrine; ectonucleotidase;

    Abstract : The aims of this dissertation were to investigate the effects of extracellular purines on insulin secretion, and apoptosis in mouse pancreatic islets and β-cells; to examine if high glucose and free fatty acids induces β-cell apoptosis via autocrine effects of ADP acting on the P2Y13 receptor; and to investigate the modulation of extracellular purines in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) through ectonucleotidase or ATP release under the effect of high glucose. The expression of the ADP receptors P2Y1 and P2Y13 were shown in both mouse pancreatic islets and isolated β-cells using real-time PCR quantification. READ MORE

  2. 2. Roles of p16INk a and PDGF-B in glioma

    Author : Lene Uhrbom; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; autocrine; glioma; INK4a; PDGF; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Abstract : Gliomas are diffuse astrocytic tumors of the central nervous system (CNS) which usually affect adults. This thesis work has focused on molecular mechanisms of altered growth control in glioma, and the significance of two gene products belonging to pathways commonly affected in glioma, p16INK4a and PDGF-B, has been investigated in vitro and in vivo. 3. 3. Autocrine growth stimulation in human bladder cancer

    Author : Anders Ruck; Nils-Erik Heldin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : Bladder cancer is one of the most common human cancers which, on a worldwide basis, represents 3-4 % of all malignancies. It is primarily occuring in people over 60 and males are about 2-3 times more likely to develop bladder cancer than are women. READ MORE

  4. 4. Impact of autocrine factors on physiology and productivity in Trichoplusia ni serum-free cultures

    Author : Ulrika Eriksson; Lena Häggström; Per Berglund; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biotechnology; Trichoplusia ni; High Five; insect cells; BEVS; serum-free medium; yeast extract; conditioned medium; autocrine regulation of proliferation; growth factors; cell cycle; metalloproteinase; specific productivity; Bioteknik; Bioengineering; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to increase the understanding of the mechanisms regulating cell proliferation and recombinant protein production in serum-free cultures of Trichoplusia ni (T. ni) insect cells.Conditioned medium (CM) was shown to contain both stimulatory and inhibitory factors (CM factors) influencing cell growth. 5. 5. Paracrine and autocrine functions of PDGF in malignant disease

    Author : Tobias Sjöblom; Lars Holmgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Growth factors and their receptors are frequently activated by mutations in human cancer. Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-B and its tyrosine kinase receptor, the PDGF β-receptor, have been implicated in autocrine transformation as well as paracrine stimulation of tumor growth.
