  1. 1. Leveraging supplier material data to inform LCA modelling and resource assessment in the automotive industry

    Author : Felipe Bitencourt de Oliveira; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; life cycle assessment LCA ; vehicle gliders; metal availability; metal scarcity; life cycle inventory LCI ; automotive industry; International Material Data System IMDS ;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the application of supplier material composition data from the automotive industry's International Material Data System (IMDS) to inform sustainability assessments. A methodology is developed to systematically extract and process IMDS data for use in life cycle assessment (LCA) modelling. READ MORE

  2. 2. Towards a sustainable automotive industry : experiences from the development of emission control systems

    Author : David Bauner; Staffan Laestadius; Lee Schipper; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; evolutionary economics; environmental innovation; trajectories; co-evolution; Industrial engineering and economy; Industriell teknik och ekonomi;

    Abstract : From the mid-1970s and on, the contribution to air pollution of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides from gasoline passenger cars in the developed world has been reduced through co-evolution of regulation and commercial introduction of catalytic emission control technology, now part of hundreds of millions of cars, trucks and buses worldwide. This dissertation is a disaggregated study of the global introduction of catalytic emission control technology as a measure to reduce local air pollution. READ MORE

    Abstract : At the end of the second decade of the XXI century, the transportation industry at large faces several challenges that will shape its evolution in the next decade and beyond. The first such challenge is the increasing public awareness and governmental action on climate change, which are increasing the pressure on the industrial sectors responsible for the greatest share of emissions, the transportation industry being one of them, to reduce their environmental footprint.
