  1. 1. Production of polyclonal antibodies in rabbits and chickens immunised with human immunoglobulin G : A study of the utility of egg yolk antibody production as a substitute for rabbit serum antibody production

    Author : Lise Svendsen Bollen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Laboratory animals; antibody production; egg yolk; adjuvants; antibody response; avidity; Försöksdjursvetenskap; Laboratory animal science; Försöksdjursvetenskap; zoologisk utvecklingsbiologi; Animal Development;

    Abstract : The utility of chicken egg yolk antibodies as an alternative to rabbit antisera was studied by comparing antibody and avidity development in immunised animals (15 rabbits and 30 chickens) during a one-year immunisation scheme. Human IgG was used as the model antigen and the efficacy of three adjuvants, Freund's Complete Adjuvant, Freund's Incomplete Adjuvant and Hunter's TiterMax, was compared. READ MORE

  2. 2. Serology of human papillomavirus type 16

    Author : Xiaohong Wang; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi; bacteriology; Microbiology; neutralization; avidity; heparin; epitope; ELISA; HPV16; antibody response;

    Abstract : Human papillomavirus (HPV) type 16 is the major cause of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and anogenital cancers. The antibody response to papillomaviruses is a key determinant of protective immunity and forms the basis for prophylactic vaccine development as well as for seroepidemiology. READ MORE

  3. 3. Immune reconstitution after childhood leukemia. Aspects on immunizations and effects of Ara-C on the innate immune system

    Author : Torben Ek; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : acute lymphoblastic leukemia; immune reconstitution; immunization; antibody; avidity; ara-C; fever; cytokines;

    Abstract : Children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) can be cured with cytotoxic chemotherapy, but myelosuppression and immunosuppression are major side effects causing morbidity and even mortality from infections. Vaccinations with diphtheria toxoid (DT), tetanus toxoid (TT) and protein conjugated Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib) capsular polysaccharide were used to investigate the adaptive immune system in a controlled study of 31 children after treatment for ALL. 4. 4. Avidity-guided radionuclide therapy for thyroid cancer

    Author : Joachim Nilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The treatment of differentiated thyroid cancer has three main modalities: surgery, hormone suppression and radioiodine therapy. Effective radioiodine therapy requires cancer cells to be iodine avid, i.e. exhibit relatively functional iodine transport and retention. READ MORE

  5. 5. Studies on the humoral immune response in nervous system infections with special reference of facial palsy and lyme borreliosis

    Author : Magnus Roberg; Göran Stiernstedt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : This thesis is mainly based on studies of the humoral immune response in subjects with neurological infections with special reference to facial palsy and Lyme borreliosis. Cerebrospinal fluid and/or serum samples from a total of 281 patients were investigated. READ MORE
