  1. 1. Stem cell transplantation and regeneration after dorsal root avulsion

    Author : Carl Trolle; Elena Kozlova; Adam Reid; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Regeneration; dorsal root; sensory nerve; nerve injury; cell transplantation; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Abstract : Spinal root avulsion leads to paralysis and loss of sensory function. Surgical methods can improve motor function and ameliorate pain but sensory recovery in adults is poor. Previous studies have shown that cell transplantation or treatment with trophic factors can improve functional outcome in rodents after dorsal root transection or crush. READ MORE

  2. 2. Stem Cell Transplantation in Dorsal Root Injury

    Author : Carl Trolle; Elena Kozlova; Niklas Marklund; Karin Nordström; Michael Andäng; Mårten Risling; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Sensory Neuron; Regeneration; Spinal Root; Stem Cell; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Abstract : After traumatic injuries to the brachial plexus there is a risk that one or more of the spinal roots are torn from the spinal cord, known as avulsion injury. This often leads to paralysis and chronic pain, notoriously difficult to treat with current pharmacotherapy. READ MORE

  3. 3. Generation of functional neural progenitors for spinal cord transplantation

    Author : Jan Hoeber; Elena Kozlova; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Regenerative Neurobiology; Stem cells; Sensory regeneration; Spinal cord injury; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Abstract : Dorsal root avulsion injuries result in permanent impairment of sensory functions due to the disconnection of the peripheral nervous system from the spinal cord. Strategies aiming for the functional reconnection of sensory neurons with their targets in the spinal cord dorsal horn need to overcome the axonal growth non-permissive glial scar and provide a growth promoting environment. 4. 4. Progenitor cells in the brainstem and filum terminale

    Author : Michael Fagerlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : brainstem;

    Abstract : Neurogenesis prevails in the adult mammalian CNS. New neurons are constitutively formed invivo in the subventricular zone (SVZ) of the lateral ventricle wall and in the subgranular zone of the dentate gyrus. READ MORE

  5. 5. Neural progenitors for sensory and motor repair

    Author : Jan Hoeber; Elena Kozlova; Linda Greensmith; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Regenerative Neurobiology; Stem cells; Sensory regeneration; Spinal cord injury; Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis; Neurodegeneration; Oxidative Stress; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Abstract : Injury and neurodegenerative conditions of the spinal cord can lead to paralysis and loss of sensation. Cell therapeutic approaches can restore sensory innervation of the spinal cord following injury and protect spinal cord cells from degeneration. READ MORE
