  1. 6. Impact of Metallic Projectiles on a Ceramic Target Surface : Transition Between Interface Defeat and Penetration

    Author : René Renström; Bengt Lundberg; Patrik Lundberg; Nils-Gunnar Ohlson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Engineering physics; Projectile; Cylindrical; Conical; Yield strength; Compressibility; Perfect flow; Self-similar flow; Interface defeat; Dwell; Teknisk fysik; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot hållfasthetslära; Engineering Science with specialization in Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis is to gain understanding of the load on flat target surfaces produced by projectile impact. Models are proposed from which upper and lower bounds can be derived for the transition be-tween interface defeat and normal penetration. READ MORE

  2. 7. Computational Modeling of Reaction and Diffusion Processes in Mammalian Cell

    Author : Qasim Ali Chaudhry; Michael Hanke; Bernt Wennberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : PAHs are the reactive toxic chemical compounds which are present as environmental pollutants. These reactive compounds not only diffuse through the membranes of the cell but also partition into the membranes. They react with the DNA of the cell giving rise to toxicity and may cause cancer. 3. 8. Coining Residual Stresses in Aluminium Ship Structures: Experiments and FE- simulations

    Author : Rutger Ogeman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The build-up and redistribution of residual stresses obtained by stress coining of aluminium plates containing a hole have been studied experimentally and numerically. The foil strain gauge technique has been employed to measure strains at the bore of a hole during and after the coining process. READ MORE

  4. 9. Modeling Auto-Ignition, Flame Propagation and Combustion in Non-Stationary Turbulent Sprays

    Author : Anders Karlsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; auto-ignition; transient; flame propagation; turbulence; spray formation; prediction; stirred reactor approximation; model; reduced chemistry; combustion;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on detailed numerical studies of spray formation, auto-ignition, envelope flame development and combustion in a simple two-dimensional axi-symmetric geometry. A Lagrangian -- Eulerian formulation is used to analyze the droplet motion and gas flow field. READ MORE

  5. 10. Numerical and modelling aspects of large-eddy and hybrid simulations of turbulent flows

    Author : Matteo Montecchia; Arne V. Johansson; Gert Brethouwer; Stefan Wallin; Dominic Von Terzi; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; turbulence; wall-bounded flows; large-eddy simulation; SGS modelling; OpenFOAM; hybrid RANS-LES; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : In this study, the explicit algebraic sub-grid scale (SGS) model (EAM) has been extensively validated in wall-resolved large-eddy simulations (LES) of wall-bounded turbulent flows at different Reynolds numbers and a wide range of resolutions. Compared to eddy-viscosity based models, the formulation of the EAM is more consistent with the physics and allows to accurately capture SGS anisotropy,which is relevant especially close to walls.
