  1. 1. Simulation and Optimization of an Axial Compressor Considering Tip Clearance Flow

    Author : Marcus Lejon; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; design; compressor; optimization; validation; CFD; turbulence models; tip clearance;

    Abstract : With ever-increasing demands for high efficiency in axial compressors, it has become important to consider more geometrical features of the manufactured component in the design phase. Many possibilities open if the level of fidelity of the computational model can be increased. READ MORE

  2. 2. Multi-objective CFD-based design method for axial compressors

    Author : Lars R Ellbrant; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Q3D; Turbomachinery; Design; Meta-modeling; Optimization; CFD; Validation; Compressor; Transonic;

    Abstract : Economic aspects such as reducing specific fuel consumption and ever growing environmental requirements on emissions and perceived noise levels are the major incentives in the pursuit to improve aircraft engines. The overall efficiency of the engine is a combination of propulsive efficiency and thermal efficiency. READ MORE

  3. 3. A mechanical model of an axial piston machine

    Author : Rasmus Löfstrand Grip; Ulf Sellgren; Niclas Strömberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Multi-body mechanical model; axial piston; Z-shaft; wobble plate; Sophia; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : A mechanical model of an axial piston-type machine with a so-called wobble plate and Z-shaft mechanism is presented. The overall aim is to design and construct an oil-free piston expander demonstrator as a first step to realizing an advanced and compact small-scale steam engine system. READ MORE

  4. 4. Aerodynamic design framework for low-pressure compression systems

    Author : Marcus Lejon; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; manufacturing variations; optimization; stage matching; tip clearance; validation; Turbomachinery; CFD; surface roughness; compressor;

    Abstract : Aircraft engine manufacturers strive to improve current state of the art designs through continuous development efforts. By improving existing designs and exploring new alternatives, the goal is to reduce the fuel consumption - a topic of high relevance due to the remarkable growth rate of air traffc. READ MORE

  5. 5. Modeling Unsteady flow Effects in 3D Throughflow Calculations

    Author : Magnus Stridh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; throughflow; turbomachinery; mixing-plane; rotor-stator interaction; cascade; Deterministic stress terms; Linear harmonic; compressor; preconditioned GMRES; Unsteady; linear Navier-Stokes; turbine;

    Abstract : The flow field in a transonic multistage compressor is compressible, three-dimensional and highly unsteady and can be predicted in principle by the exact time-accurate Navier-Stokes equations. The high Reynolds number encountered in multistage turbomachinery together with the wall-bounded nature of the flow environment however prevent the use of DNS to solve the exact N-S equations.
