  1. 16. Numerical computations of wind turbine wakes and wake interaction : Optimization and control

    Author : Karl Nilsson; Dan Henningson; Stefan Ivanell; Martin O. L. Hansen; KTH; []
    Keywords : Actuator disc method; Actuator line method; Blade element momentum method; Wind turbine wake; Wake interaction; CFD; LES; EllipSys3D;

    Abstract : In the present thesis the wake flow behind wind turbines is analyzed numerically using large-eddy simulations. The wind turbine rotors are modeled by using either the actuator disc method or the actuator line method in which the blades are represented by body forces computed with airfoil data. READ MORE

  2. 17. Influence of microstructure on fatigue and ductility properties of tool steels

    Author : Mats Randelius; Rolf Sandström; Jens Bergström; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tool steels; fatigue; ductility; carbides; carbide cluster; inclusion; size distribution; modelling; FEM; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : Fatigue and ductility properties in various tool steels, produced by powder metallurgy, spray forming or conventionally ingot casting, have been analysed experimentally and successfully compared to developed models. The models are able to predict the fatigue limit and cause for fatigue fracture, and strain- and stress-development until fracture during the ductile fracture process respectively. READ MORE

  3. 18. Advances in quantitative emission tomography : development and analysis of methods for validation and correction

    Author : Cathrine Jonsson; Magnus Dahlbom; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SPECT; Quantification; rCBF; Scatter correction; Phantoms; medicinsk strålningsfysik; Medical Radiation Physics;

    Abstract : The nuclear medicine imaging techniques SPECT and PET are sensitive tools in mapping various physiological and biochemical processes in vivo. This work was devoted to investigations of methodological and physical properties of the SPECT technique as well as developing methods for validation and correction. READ MORE

  4. 19. Modeling and Experimental Studies of High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering Discharges

    Author : Chunqing Huo; Nils Brenning; James Bradley; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : HiPIMS, high power impulse magnetron sputtering, is a promising technology that has attracted a lot of attention, ever since it was introduced in 1999. A time-dependent plasma discharge model has been developed for the ionization region (IRM) in HiPIMS discharges. READ MORE

  5. 20. Transport Coefficients during Drying of Solids containing Multicomponent Mixtures

    Author : Rafael Gamero; Joaquín Martínez; Evangelos Tsotsas; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; capillary; conduction; convection; diffusion; evaporation; heat transfer; hydraulic conductivity; liquid film; liquid transport; mass transfer; Maxwell-Stefan diffusion coefficients; molar fluxes; phase equilibrium; temperature gradient; ternary mixture; thermodynamic factors; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : This study investigated the transport coefficients involved in mass and heat transfer during the drying of a porous solid partially saturated with multicomponent mixtures.  It included the coefficients governing liquid transport through the solid, the matrix of multicomponent diffusion coefficients in the liquid phase, and the effective thermal conductivity.
