  1. 1. Wnt/β-catenin Signaling and Epigenetic Deregulation in Breast Cancer and Parathyroid Tumours

    Author : Jessica Svedlund; Gunnar Westin; Göran Åkerström; Peyman Björklund; Ola Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Wnt signaling; parathyroid; epigenetic; Medicin; Medicine; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : The Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway is often deregulated in cancer. Here we investigate Wnt/β-catenin signaling, aberrant accumulation of β-catenin, and epigenetic deregulation in breast cancer and parathyroid tumours. READ MORE

  2. 2. Studies of epigenetic deregulation in parathyroid tumors and small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors

    Author : Elham Barazeghi; Gunnar Westin; Peter Stålberg; Per Hellman; Christofer Juhlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epigenetics; 5hmC; TET1; TET2; parathyroid tumors; SI-NET; RRBS; PTPRM;

    Abstract : Deregulation of the epigenome is associated with the initiation and progression of various types of human cancers. Here we investigated the level of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC), expression and function of TET1 and TET2, and DNA methylation in parathyroid tumors and small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs). 3. 3. Genetic Aspects of Endocrine Tumorigenesis : A Hunt for the Endocrine Neoplasia Gene

    Author : Alberto Delgado Verdugo; Peyman Björklund; gunnar westin; Per Hellman; Filip Farnebo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Exome sequencing; SDHAF2; epigenetics; methylation; methylation array; Sanger sequencing; pheochromocytoma; SI-NETs; carcinoid; oncology; endocrine surgery; parathyroid; Genetics; Genetik; Kirurgi; Surgery;

    Abstract : Endocrine tumors arise from endocrine glands. Most endocrine tumors are benign but malignant variants exist. Several endocrine neoplasms display loss of parts of chromosome 11 or 18, produce hormones and responds poorly to conventional chemotherapeutics. The multiple endocrine neoplasia syndromes are mainly confined to endocrine tumors. READ MORE

  4. 4. CANCER-RELATED GENE REGULATION MECHANISMS

    Author : Srinivas Veerla; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Cancer is a disease characterized by deregulation of cellular functions. The means by which these changes occur may differ among cancer types. However, common to all cancers are that they have changed the genetic programs that determine their characteristics. Genetic programs are mainly regulated by the action of transcription factors. 5. 5. Employing epigenetic marks to detect cancer : studies on nasopharyngeal carcinoma and lung cancer

    Author : Imran Nawaz; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : NPC;

    Abstract : Tumor suppressor genes (TSGs) or oncogenes aberrantly methylated in transcription control regions during early carcinogenesis are potential tools for early detection of cancer. We have identified suitable genes and explored assays based on their methylation status aiming for early detection of cancer: nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
