  1. 1. Novel findings on cellular trafficking and targeting for granule storage of neutrophil elastase, a multifunctional effector molecule of innate immunity

    University dissertation from Division of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine, Department of Laboratory Medicine, Lund University

    Author : Linda Källquist; [2009]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hematopoietic cell; CD63; neutrophil elastase; targeting; trafficking; intracellular sorting; neutrophil; azurophil granule;

    Abstract : Neutrophil elastase (NE) has important roles in innate immunity, killing pathogens and controlling the immune response; but how NE is targeted to developing granules is not understood. Therefore, the aim of this thesis was to investigate the sorting of NE. READ MORE

  2. 2. Sorting and processing of neutrophil granule proteins

    University dissertation from Elinor Bülow, Dept of Hematology, C14, BMC, 221 84 Lund

    Author : Elinor Bülow; [2002]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; secretion; Haematology; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor; cell-specific retention; chimeric; lysosome-related organelles; secretory pathway; propeptide of MPO; azurophil granules;

    Abstract : The neutrophil granulocytes have a critical role in innate immunity in particular through phagocytosis of microorganisms. Their cytoplasmic granule subsets store digestive enzymes and antibiotic proteins that are released during this event. READ MORE

  3. 3. Bactericidal/Permeability-Increasing Protein (BPI) and Proteinase 3: Studies at the Transcriptional Level

    University dissertation from Divison of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine, Lund University

    Author : Katrien Pieters; [2005]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; azurophil granules; myelopoiesis; BPI; mouse ortholog; proteinase 3; transcriptional regulation; Wegener s Granulomatosis WG ; SNP; Medicine human and vertebrates ; extracellulära vätskor; Hematologi; extracellular fluids; Haematology; Medicin människa och djur ;

    Abstract : In myelopoiesis, neutrophils and monocytes/macrophages are formed from a common myeloid precursor cell in the bone marow. During maturation of neutrophils, cytoplasmic granules are formed in the cells and the content of these granules is critical for the function of neutrophils in the first line of defense against invading microorganisms. 4. 4. Biosynthesis, Processing, and Sorting of Human Neutrophil Granule Proteins. Focus on Cathepsin G, Proteinase 3, and Azurocidin

    University dissertation from Research Department 2, E-block, University Hospital, SE-221 85 Lund, Sweden

    Author : Daniel Garwicz; [2000]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hematologi; extracellular fluids; Haematology; differentiation; bone marrow progenitor cells; preproform; mutations; Cell lines; transfection; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : The neutrophil granulocyte contains a number of multifunctional proteins stored in different subsets of granules. The azurophil granules, synthesized early during differentiation, harbour leukocyte elastase, cathepsin G, proteinase 3, and azurocidin; the members of the serprocidin family. READ MORE

  5. 5. On the Biosynthesis and Processing of Cathepsin G, Leukocyte Elastase, and Azurocidin neutrophil granule members of a hematopoietic serine protease superfamily

    University dissertation from Research Dept 2, E-blocket, University Hospital, S-221 85 Lund, SWEDEN

    Author : Anders Lindmark; [1997]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellular fluids; Haematology; sorting; Activation; propeptide; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : The serine proteases cathepsin G, leukocyte elastase, proteinase 3, and the inactive protease homologue azurocidin, stored in the azurophil granules of neutrophils, belong to a hematopoietic serine protease superfamily with members in mature effector cells of bone marrow origin. Promonocytic U-937 cells were used for studying the biosynthesis of cathepsin G and leukocyte elastase by biosynthetic radiolabelling. READ MORE
