  1. 1. Hemicelluloses from Agricultural and Forestry Crops Isolation, Characterisation, and Enzymatic Hydrolysis

    Author : Alexandra Andersson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Proteiner; enzymologi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; enzymology; hydrogels; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi; Proteins; a-galactosidase; b-mannanase; hemicellulase; corn fibre; barley husks; spruce; size-exclusion chromatography; arabinoxylan; microwave irradiation; steam pretreatment; membrane filtration; hemicellulose; galactoglucomannan;

    Abstract : Hemicelluloses are tremendous sources of renewable raw materials, which utilisation have the potential to be highly increased in the future. Hemicelluloses are among the major groups of compounds in plant cell walls, together with cellulose and lignin. These three components are closely associated, making them difficult to separate from each other. READ MORE

  2. 2. Structure and Function of Beta-Mannanases from Glycoside Hydrolase Clan A. A Study of Hemicellulases from Microbes and a Mollusc

    Author : Lars Anderson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Proteiner; enzymologi; enzymology; Proteins; subsite organisation; transglycosylation; enzyme kinetics; beta-mannanase; hemicellulose;

    Abstract : Hemicellulose is the second most abundant group of renewable polysaccharides. Mannans can be found as the major hemicellulose in softwood and as storage polysaccharides in a range of plants. In this work, structural and functional characterisations of family 5 and 26 endo-1,4-b-mannanases (b-mannanases) have been performed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Degradation of wood polysaccharides by fungal glycoside hydrolases

    Author : Torny Eriksson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Penicillium brasilianum; ethanol; cellulose; wood polysaccharides; Man5A hemicellulase; cellulase; endoglucanase; cellobiohydrolase; Cel7B; Cel7A; Trichoderma reesei; glycoside hydrolase; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi;

    Abstract : The enzymatic degradation of wood polysaccharides such as cellulose and hemicellulose is an important process in nature. In addition, cellulases and hemicellulases can be used in industrial applications. Fuel ethanol can potentially be produced from wood by enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose followed by yeast fermentation of the formed sugars. READ MORE
