  1. 1. Studies on the regulation of the Napin napA promoter by ABI3, bZIP and bHLH transcription factors

    Author : Nathalie Martin; Lars Rask; Ines Ezcurra; Olof Olsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Molecular biology; transcription gene regulation; plant seed maturation; seed storage protein; ABA; ABI3; bZIP; bHLH; Brassica napus; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : The B3-domain transcription factor ABI3 is a major regulator of gene expression of seed maturation during Arabidopsis embryogenesis. The napA gene encodes for a Brassica napus 2S storage protein specifically expressed in the embryo during the early and mid-maturation phase (MAT program). READ MORE

  2. 2. Regulation of chloroplast development during the greening process

    Author : Yan Ji; Åsa Strand; Eevi Rintamäki; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis thaliana; light response; anterograde signalling; plastid transcription; chloroplast development; photosynthesis; bZIP; PEP complex; de-etiolation; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Upon light exposure, the expression of one-third of the nuclear-encoded genes is changing, including genes encoding many chloroplast-targeted proteins responsible for the initiation of plastid transcription and the establishment of photosynthesis. The control of the nuclear-encoded genes involved in the development of chloroplast is referred to as anterograde signalling. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Path to Destruction : Understanding the mechanism and regulation of proteasomal degradation

    Author : Anne Beskow; Patrick Young; Ylva Engström; Bernat Crosas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Proteasome; ubiquitin; p97; Cnc-C; transcription factors; Nrf1; Nrf2; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : A majority of intracellular proteins are degraded by the ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS). In this thesis, both the mechanism of the degradation and the regulation of UPS have been investigated. The importance of the p97 ATPase for proteasomal degradation of cytosolic substrates was examined. READ MORE

  4. 4. Molecular mechanisms regulating early cone development in Norway spruce Picea abies (Karst)

    Author : Shirin Akhter; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Flower development progress through distinct phases that are controlled by complex genetic networks, which in turn are regulated by both endogenous and exogenous factors. A large number of functional studies have been conducted over the past decades to understand the genetic networks that regulate flower development in angiosperm model species. READ MORE

  5. 5. Targeting double-stranded DNA with locked nucleic acid-based (LNA) oligonucleotides (ON) and DNA-binding peptide conjugates

    Author : Y Vladimir Pabón-Martínez; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In this thesis we have studied two different types of molecules that bind to the major groove of the DNA: (i) oligonucleotides (ONs) containing locked nucleic acid (LNA) and in combination with intercalating agents (Twisted Intercalating Nucleic Acid, TINA, and Benzoquinoquinoxaline, BQQ) and (ii) peptides mimicking the leucine zipper transcription factor (GCN4 bZIP TF). Both ONs and peptides bind to the DNA double helix aiming to serve as transcription regulators of disease related genes. READ MORE
