21. Microbiome Of Ecotoxicity Assays
Abstract : Microorganisms are ubiquitous and present in animal microbiomes, particulates, and colonizable surfaces of test systems. From an ecotoxicological perspective, they are metabolically active biological compartments that respond to test conditions, including test substances. READ MORE

22. Bacterial virulence and adaptation mediated by two-component system signalling
Abstract : One of the most fundamental ways of signal perception and propagation is mediated by the bacterial two-component system (TCS). These types of systems mediate bacterial adaptation that may cause disease in a host due to expression of virulence factors. READ MORE

23. Roles of secreted bacterial factors in modulation of host cell signalling
Abstract : Pathogenic bacteria employ several secretion systems to release or inject virulence factors that may alter host cell processes, generate a replicative niche, and aid bacterial survival in adverse environments. This thesis presents my investigations on how bacterial factors can modulate host cell signalling mechanisms. READ MORE

24. Fluoroquinolone resistance in the environment and the human gut – Analysis of bacterial DNA sequences to explore the underlying genetic mechanisms
Abstract : Fluoroquinolones (FQs) are synthetic, broad-spectrum antibiotics that target type II topoisomerases. High-level resistance is often caused by mutations in the target genes of FQs, especially in gyrA and parC. In contrast, plasmid-mediated resistance genes, such as qnr, often confer moderate levels of resistance. READ MORE

25. Colonization, persistence and virulence factors in Escherichia coli strains in the human intestinal microflora
Abstract : Escherichia coli is a member of the normal intestinal microflora of man and many animals. In this thesis, various aspects of the E. coli colonization pattern were studied, especially the role of so called virulence factors for persistence of E. coli in the gut microflora. READ MORE
