1. Impact of Drinking Water Treatment and Pipe Biofilms on Bacterial Dynamics in the Distribution System
Abstract : This thesis addresses drinking water quality and microbiology in full-scale drinking water distribution systems (DWDSs). It examines how UV irradiation and slow sand filters (SSFs) alter the water bacteriome, and how the biofilm in the DWDS affects the drinking water quality. READ MORE

2. Water Supply in Tanzania and Performance of Local Plant Materials in Purification of Turbid Water
Abstract : Water supply services in urban and rural areas of Tanzania were reviewed and specific studies were carried out on water supply and on purification of turbid water sources using locally available plant materials in rural villages of Singida Rural District. The review showed that large proportions of urban and rural populations in Tanzania face acute water supply problems mainly due to poor planning, implementation and management of water supply projects, including an inability to address social, technical, operation and maintenance and financial issues. 3. Modern Artificial Recharge Plants : Combining chemical flocculation with aquifer recharge
Abstract : Water supply security is increasingly becoming a challenge worldwide. Surface waters, which are often used for drinking water production, have experienced an increase in natural organic matter (NOM) and frequency of algae blooms. Water quantity is also an issue due to increasing populations and potable water demand. READ MORE

4. Small Sanitation Systems – Treatment Efficiency, Sustainability and Implementation
Abstract : Current socio-technical wastewater system paradigms are being challenged by emerging global issues such as climate change, environmental degradation and scarcity of resources. Thus, exploration of innovative new urban water management solutions is required that enable closure of resource loops. READ MORE

5. On-site sanitation systems - An integrated assessment of treatment efficiency and sustainability
Abstract : Small on-site sanitation systems for wastewater collection and treatment are prevalent in suburban and rural areas in many countries. However, these systems often underperform, causing potential impact to the receiving waters and increasing the risks to public health, thus hindering the overall sustainability of the systems.
