  1. 1. Contributions to the theory of unequal probability sampling

    Author : Anders Lundquist; Lennart Bondesson; Aleksandras Plikusas; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; balanced sampling; conditional Poisson sampling; inclusion probabilities; maximum entropy; Markov chain Monte Carlo; Pareto sampling; Sampford sampling; unequal probability sampling.; Mathematical statistics; Matematisk statistik; Mathematical Statistics; matematisk statistik;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of five papers related to the theory of unequal probability sampling from a finite population. Generally, it is assumed that we wish to make modelassisted inference, i.e. the inclusion probability for each unit in the population is prescribed before the sample is selected. READ MORE

  2. 2. Multiple Kernel Imputation : A Locally Balanced Real Donor Method

    Author : Nicklas Pettersson; Daniel Thorburn; Susanne Rässler; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bayesian Bootstrap; Boundary Effects; External Information; Kernel estimation features; Local Balancing; Pólya Sampling; statistik; Statistics;

    Abstract : We present an algorithm for imputation of incomplete datasets based on Bayesian exchangeability through Pólya sampling. Each (donee) unit with a missing value is imputed multiple times by observed (real) values on units from a donor pool. The donor pools are constructed using auxiliary variables. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sampling uncertainties in ensemble weather forecasting

    Author : Linus Magnusson; Erland Källén; Jonas Nycander; Jan Barkmeijer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ensemble forecasting; Initial perturbation techniques; Meteorology; Meteorologi; meteorologi; Meteorology;

    Abstract : The aim of ensemble weather forecasting is to provide probability forecasts for the occurrence of meteorological events. The ensembles are constructed by assembling several forecast realisations, each member of the ensemble being constructed to sample the uncertainties in the forecast. READ MORE

  4. 4. Microdialysis Sampling of Macro Molecules : Fluid Characteristics, Extraction Efficiency and Enhanced Performance

    Author : Jiangtao Chu; Andreas Dahlin; Klas Hjort; Jan Kehr; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; microdialysis; high molecular weight cut-off; fluid characteristics; fluid recovery; extraction efficiency; biomarker; microporous membrane; macromolecule transport; transmembrane; large pore; surface modification; pluronic; dextran; in vitro; microdialysis catheter; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot mikrosystemteknik; Engineering Science with specialization in Microsystems Technology; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot materialvetenskap; Engineering Science with specialization in Materials Science;

    Abstract : In this thesis, fluid characteristics and sampling efficiency of high molecular weight cut-off microdialysis are presented, with the aim of improving the understanding of microdialysis sampling mechanisms and its performance regarding extraction efficiency of biological fluid and biomarkers.Microdialysis is a well-established clinical sampling tool for monitoring small biomarkers such as lactate and glucose. 5. 5. Design-based sampling methods for environmental monitoring

    Author : Xin Zhao; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Efficient strategies for environmental monitoring are proposed with an emphasis on the importance of using available information. In environmental monitoring, it is common to use area frames covering the assumed spread of the population of inter-est. READ MORE
