  1. 1. Beyond the basal ganglia

    Author : Jorien m van der Burg; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hypothalamus; gastro-intestinal tract; Huntington s disease; metabolism; weight loss;

    Abstract : Huntington’s disease (HD) is a fatal, hereditary disorder caused by a mutation in the gene encoding the protein huntingtin. Although mutant huntingtin is ubiquitously expressed throughout the body, HD research has mainly focused on the role of the basal ganglia. READ MORE

  2. 2. Roles of PI3-kinase and ARAP2 in regulating glucose metabolism

    Author : Aditi Chaudhari; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PI3-kinase; Type 2 diabetes; ARAP2; Lipid droplets; metabolism;

    Abstract : Insulin signaling is mediated by a complex, highly integrated network which functions to control multiple metabolic and growth processes throughout the organism. A key enzyme in the insulin signaling network is phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3-kinase). READ MORE

  3. 3. Regulation of glycerol efflux in adipocytes. Structural and functional studies of the glycerol channel aquaporin 7

    Author : Sofia de Mare; Medicinsk strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glycerol : metabolism; Lipolysis; X-ray Crystallography; Perilipin 1; Aquaglyceroporin; Aquaporin 7; Adipocytes metabolism; Glycerol : metabolism; adipocyte metabolism; X-ray crystallography; Aquaglyceroporin; Aquaporin 7; Perilipin 1; Lipolysis;

    Abstract : Glycerol levels in adipocytes depend on the lipolysis, the hydrolysis of triglycerides into glycerol and free fatty acids, and the efflux of glycerol across the plasma membrane through glycerol channels. The aims of this work were to investigate how glycerol levels are regulated on a molecular level by PLIN1, a major lipid droplet-associated protein and a key regulator of the lipolysis by scaffolding for lipolytic proteins on the lipid droplet. 4. 4. Thermal physiology and metabolism : Interplay between heat generation and energy homeostasis

    Author : Gustavo Abreu-Vieira; Jan Nedergaard; Eric Ravussin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Abstract : Mammal metabolism is intimately connected to the maintenance of body temperature. While metabolic pathways invariably produce heat as a by-product, the natural heat present in the environment also plays a role in defining the adaptive metabolism and general physiology of an organism. 5. 5. Glucose metabolism in patients with exocrine pancreatic adenocarcinoma

    Author : Johan Permert; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : endocrine pancreatic function; euglycemic hyperinsulinemic clamp; exocrine pancreatic adenocarcinoma; glucose metabolism; glyccogen synthesis; hyperglycemic clamp; immunohistochemistry; insulin resistance; insulin secretion; in situ hybridization; islet amuyloid polypeptide IAPP ; radioimmunoassay; subtotal pancreatectomy; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Carc.inoma of the exocrine pancreas is the fifth leading cause of cancer death in the Western world and the survival rate is one of the lowest for cancers of any site. Pancreatic cancer is characterized by pronounced, early cachexia and frequent metabolic complications. READ MORE
