  1. 1. The Effect of Mechanical Characteristics of Basal Decollement and Basement Structures on Deformation of the Zagros Basin

    Author : Abbas Bahroudi; John Cosgrove; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : decollement; extension; Zagros; Hormuz salt; shortening; basement faults; Arabia; mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Abstract : Two fundamental structural elements, basement architecture and basal decollement, play a significant role in the evolution of a tectonically active region. Using different approaches (field data, literature review and analogue models) this thesis demonstrates that these two elements affected the deformation style in the Zagros fold-thrust belt during Mesozoic extensional and Cenozoic contractional episodes. 2. 2. Tectonic History and Present-Day Deformation in the Zagros Fold-Thrust Belt

    Author : Khaled Hessami; James Jackson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Zagros; Orogeny; Unconformities; Iran; Growth folds; Middel East; Tectonics; Models; GPS; basement; Seismicity; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Abstract : This thesis uses various approaches such as observation of satellite images, field investigations, analogue modeling and GPS measurements to constrain deformation of the basement and sedimentary cover of the Zagros fold-thrust belt in time and space.Focal mechanism solutions of most earthquakes indicate that deformation in the Zagros basement is due to shortening and thickening through numerous thrust faults. 3. 3. Constraining the timing of veins, faults and fractures in crystalline rocks by in situ Rb-Sr geochronology

    Author : Mikael Tillberg; Henrik Drake; Mats E. Åström; Thomas Zack; Johan Hogmalm; Bjarne Almqvist; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; geochronology; brittle deformation; crustal fluids; mineral precipitation; ancient microbial activity; Precambrian craton; Scandinavia; Natural Science; Naturvetenskap;

    Abstract : Precambrian cratons are continent cores archiving the oldest crustal histories on Earth. The crystalline basement of cratons is typically characterized by complex arrays of multiple fracture and fault generations hosting minerals formed by fluids flowing through fracture networks. 4. 4. Three-dimensional analysis of aeromagnetic and gravimetric data of sedimentary basins from Panama, Central America

    Author : Luis E. Santamaria Vallejos; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geophysics; Tillämpad geofysik;

    Abstract : The knowledge of the geology of the sedimentary basins from the Gulf of Panama is still quite limited. There is a lack of data from the basin geometry, the thickness, the continuity and connection between the basins, and from the characteristics of the crystalline basement rocks beneath the sedimentary basins. 5. 5. Environmental and hydrogeological geophysics with applications in Thailand, Laos, and Sweden

    Author : Kamhaeng Wattanasen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geophysics; Tillämpad geofysik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents applications of geophysical methods in the fields of environment and hydrogeology. In relation to environmental problems, two different geophysical surveys have been carried out; one to study an arsenic contaminated area in the southern Thailand (paper I) and a second to locate shallow faults in Quaternary sediments in an area around the Ongkharak Nuclear Research Centre, central Thailand (paper II).
