  1. 1. Cobalt in the hard metal production industry : exposure via inhalation and skin and the inflammatory response in human keratinocytes

    Author : Maria Klasson; Eva Särndahl; Håkan Westberg; Magnus Lindberg; Alexander Persson; Kristina Jakobsson; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cobalt; cobalt chloride; skin; HaCaT; in vitro; cell viability; pro-inflammatory cytokines; NLRP3 inflammasome;

    Abstract : Cobalt is a strong sensitizer and can cause contact allergy upon both direct contact or from airborne exposure on the skin. In the skin, keratinocytes are the first cells to come in contact with the metal and will react and respond to the danger by triggering an alarm system resulting in an inflammatory response in the skin. 2. 2. Electrification of the basic materials industry – Implications for the electricity system

    Author : Alla Toktarova; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; renewables; electrification; storage; industry; hydrogen; flexibility; circular economy; electricity systems modeling;

    Abstract : The European energy-intensive basic materials industry must achieve deep reductions in CO2 emissions to meet the targets set out in the Paris Agreement. The rapid decline in the cost of renewable electricity makes expanded electrification an attractive option for eliminating the dependence of the industry on fossil fuels. READ MORE

  3. 3. Reducing Swedish Carbon Dioxide Emissions from the Basic Industry and Energy Utilities : An Actor and Policy Analysis

    Abstract : The aim of the thesis is to analyze the design of the present climate and energy policies. The main focus is on how the policy instruments affect the Swedish stakeholders who are included in the European Union’s Emission Trading Scheme (EU-ETS). READ MORE

  4. 4. Enzymes as catalysts in synthesis of enantiomerically pure building blocks : secondary alcohols bearing two vicinal stereocenters

    Author : Rong Liu; Hans-Erik Högberg; Torbjörn Norin; Thorleif Anthonsen; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; enzyme; kinetic resolution; enantioselectivity; lipase; diastereoselectivity; epimerisation; metal-catalysed transformation; intramolecular alkylation.; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Enzymes as tools in organic synthesis have provided enormous advantages. This thesis deals with the applications of enzymes in the kinetic resolutions of racemic compounds. The stereochemistry of chiral compounds and the kinetics of α/β hydrolase lipases are presented. READ MORE

  5. 5. Pressurised Fluid Extraction of Bioactive Species in Tree Barks : Analysis using Hyphenated Electrochemical Mass Spectrometric Detection

    Author : Michelle Co; Charlotta Turner; Per J.R Sjöberg; Kari Hartonen; Uppsala universitet; []
