  1. 1. Generalized Vandermonde matrices and determinants in electromagnetic compatibility

    Author : Karl Lundengård; Sergei Silvestrov; Dietrich von Rosen; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics Applied Mathematics; matematik tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : Matrices whose rows (or columns) consists of monomials of sequential powers are called Vandermonde matrices and can be used to describe several useful concepts and have properties that can be helpful for solving many kinds of problems. In this thesis we will discuss this matrix and some of its properties as well as a generalization of it and how it can be applied to curve fitting discharge current for the purpose of ensuring electromagnetic compatibility. 2. 2. Mathematics teachers' conceptions about equations

    Author : Iiris Attorps; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; algebra; conception; equation; learning; mathematics teacher; Subject didactics; Ämnesdidaktik; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK;

    Abstract : The aim of this study is to describe and to clarify the mathematics teachers’ subject matter and pedagogical content conceptions about equations. As the basis of these conceptions, the teachers’ experiences of the concept learning of equations from their own school time are described. READ MORE

  3. 3. Arnold-type invariants of curves and wave fronts on surfaces

    Author : Vladimir Tchernov; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics; Immersion of the circle; generic immersion; curves on surfaces; Legendrian immersion; Legendrian knot; wave fronts on surfaces; Whitney index; Maslov index; regular homotopy; perestroikas of plane curves and fronts; Arnold s basic invariants of plane curves and fronts; finite order invariants; Vassiliev invariants; homotopy groups of the space of curves on a surface; MATEMATIK; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK; matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : This thesis is devoted to the study of invariants of generic curves and wave fronts on surfaces. The invariants J± and St were axiomatically defined by Arnold as numerical characteristics of generic curves (immersions of the circle)on ℝ2 he introduced J± in the case of generic planar wave fronts. 4. 4. Embedding Theorems for Mixed Norm Spaces and Applications

    Author : Robert Algervik; Viktor Kolyada; Lars-Erik Persson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mixed norms; embeddings; rearrangements; anisotropic fractional Sobolev spaces; anisotropic Besov spaces; mixade normer; inbäddningar; omarrangeringar; anisotropa fractionära Sobolev rum; anisotropa Besov rum; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK; Matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : This thesis is devoted to the study of mixed norm spaces that arise in connection with embeddings of Sobolev and Besov type spaces. The work in this direction originates in a paper due to Gagliardo (1958), and was continued by Fournier (1988) and by Kolyada (2005). We consider fully anisotropic mixed norm spaces. READ MORE

  5. 5. Mathematical Optimization in Flexible Job Shop Scheduling: Modelling, Analysis, and Case Studies

    Author : Karin Thörnblad; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Flexible job shop scheduling; Mixed integer linear programming MILP ; Time-indexed formulation; Makespan; Tardiness; Fixture availability; Preventive maintenance; Night shift; Unmanned time window; Dynamic scheduling; Priority rules; Dispatching rules; Critical ratio; Night shift;

    Abstract : The major theme of this thesis is the mathematical optimization modelling of the flexible job shop scheduling problem. This problem is present in the so-called multitask cell—a production cell at GKN Aerospace's facility located in Trollhättan, Sweden—which has served as a case study during the work with this thesis.
