11. Gender differences in chemosensory function
Abstract : This thesis consists of two studies, in which gender differences in nasal chemosensory function are investigated. The first study assesses odor identification ability in a populationbased sample, varying from 45 to 90 yrs, screened for cognitive impairment and severe olfactory dysfunction. READ MORE

12. Unilateral Cleft Lip and Palate : Quality of Life and Nasal Form and Function among Adults
Abstract : Unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) is a craniofacial malformation with functional and aesthetical impact on the face and the upper airways. The aims of the current thesis were to evaluate Quality of life (QoL) in adults treated for UCLP (I), to objectively evaluate nasal form and function and to search for possible differences in residual nasal deformity and impairment of function between patients operated according to one-stage and two-stage palate closure (II) as well as to evaluate the relationship between professional and lay rating and patient satisfaction with nasolabial appearance (III) and to identify factors associated with lower levels of QoL and less satisfaction with nasal appearance among adults treated for UCLP (IV). 13. Cylindrical Waveguide Slot Antenna Analysis
Abstract : Waveguide slot antennas with longitudinal and transverse slots are analyzed using a rigorous method. The antennas are divided into regions, which are analyzed separately and matched by a moment method procedure. At the apertures between the regions, the electric fields are expanded in trigonometric basis functions. READ MORE

14. First principles methods for electronic structure calculations of solids
Abstract : A straightforward gradient expansion of the exchange energy of a perturbed electron gas is performed. Studied perturbations range from very weak to those that produce, e.g., a silicon-like band structure with a band gap. READ MORE

15. Genetic and Genomic Studies in Chicken : Assigning Function to Vertebrate Genes
Abstract : A major challenge in the post-genomic era is to understand how genome sequence variants (genotype) give rise to the enormous diversity observed in terms of morphology, physiology and behavior (phenotype) among living organisms. Domestic animals—with their tremendous phenotypic variation—are excellent model organisms for determining the relationships between genotype and phenotype. READ MORE
