  1. 1. Early steps in the biogenesis of the bc1 complex in yeast mitochondria : The role of the Cbp3-Cbp6 complex in cytochrome b synthesis and assembly

    Author : Steffi Gruschke; Martin Ott; Dennis Winge; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mitochondria; respiratory chain assembly; bc1 complex; mitochondrial gene expression; translational regulation; hemylation; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : The inner membrane of mitochondria harbors the complexes of the respiratory chain and the ATP synthase, which perform the key metabolic process oxidative phosphorylation. These complexes are composed of subunits from two different genetic origins: the majority of constituents is synthesized on cytosolic ribosomes and imported into mitochondria, but a handful of proteins, which represent core catalytic subunits, are encoded in the organellar DNA and translated on mitochondrial ribosomes. 2. 2. Biogenesis of the bc1 complex in mitochondria

    Author : Katharina Stephan; Martin Ott; Daniel Daley; Erika Fernandez-Vizarra; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Respiratory chain; bc1 complex assembly; mitochondrial protein biogenesis; molecular biology; yeast; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Mitochondria perform a variety of tasks, but the function they are most prominent for is the energy conversion to form ATP, the universal energy equivalent of the cell. The majority of this ATP is created by the oxidative phosphorylation system, consisting of the respiratory chain and the ATP synthase. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mechanistic Insights in the Biogenesis and Function of the Respiratory Chain

    Author : Hannah Dawitz; Martin Ott; Cristina Ugalde; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; respiratory chain; bc1 complex; cytochrome c oxidase; Cbp3; Rcf1; Rcf2; respiratory supercomplexes; biogenesis; mitochondria; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Mitochondria fulfill a plethora of functions, including harboring metabolic pathways and converting energy stored in metabolites into ATP, the common energy source of the cell. This last function is performed by the oxidative phosphorylation system, consisting of the respiratory chain and the ATP synthase. READ MORE

  4. 4. Organization of mitochondrial gene expression in yeast : Specific features of organellar protein synthesis

    Author : Kirsten Kehrein; Martin Ott; Thomas A Fox; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mitochondria; translation; bc1 complex; ribosome; gene expression; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Mitochondria contain their own genetic system, encoding key subunits of the oxidative phosphorylation system. These subunits are expressed by an organelle-specific gene expression machinery. READ MORE

  5. 5. Structure and Biogenesis of Membrane Proteins

    Author : Mama Ndi; Martin Ott; Alexander Kastaniotis; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cbp3; cytochrome b; respiratory complex III; alternative translation initiation and sodium proton exchange; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Membrane proteins make up about one-third of the cellular proteome. The diverse roles that membrane proteins have in cells include major life-sustaining processes, making them major drug targets. READ MORE
