  1. 16. Climatic effects on the community dynamics of the benthic fauna in the Skagerrak

    Author : Jacob Hagberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

  2. 17. Ecological succession of benthic macrofauna following disturbance : Effects of contaminants and in situ sediment remediation

    Author : Caroline Raymond; Jonas S. Gunnarsson; Agnes M. L. Karlson; Francisco J. A. Nascimento; Joanna Norkko; Gert Van Hoey; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Activated carbon; Benthos; Bioturbation; Contaminants; Environmental indices; Environmental monitoring; Environmental quality; Seafloor integrity; Sediment remediation; marin ekologi; Marine Ecology;

    Abstract : More than 70% of the Earth is covered by water, and most of the sea floor consists of soft sediments, such as mud, clay and sand. Thus, soft sediments form one of the most important habitats on Earth, with a high diversity of organisms. READ MORE

  3. 18. Benthic use of phytoplankton blooms: uptake, burial and biodiversity effects in a species-poor system

    Author : Agnes M. L. Karlson; Ragnar Elmgren; Carlo Heip; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biodiversity; ecosystem functioning; benthic-pelagic coupling; niche; resource partitioning; competition; eutrophication; cyanobacterial blooms; diatoms; invasive species; Baltic Sea; Marine ecology; Marin ekologi; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Abstract : Animals living in marine sediments (the second largest habitat on earth) play a major role in global biogeochemical cycling. By feeding on organic matter from settled phytoplankton blooms they produce food for higher trophic levels and nutrients that can fuel primary production. READ MORE

  4. 19. Benthic cryptofauna and internal bioeroders on coral reefs

    Author : Helena Strömberg; Charlotta Kvarnemo; Pat Hutchings; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bioerosion; cryptofauna; coral; invertebrates; damselfish; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Abstract : The cryptofauna of coral reefs may act as a food source for fish, while being grazers or predators themselves, and hence constitute an important group in the coral reef food web. In addition, the actively eroding taxa of the cryptofauna contribute to the decomposition and recirculation of calcium carbonate and are consequently essential for the rebuilding new coral. 5. 20. The effects of crayfish on interactions in freshwater benthic communities

    Author : Per Nyström; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; exotic species; trophic cascades; omnivory; crayfish; Trophic interactions; freshwater; Hydrobiology; marine biology; aquatic ecology; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi;

    Abstract : This thesis examines how freshwater crayfish affect community interactions in benthic food webs. I have mainly studied the influence of the introduced signal crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus) on littoral communities, but also the influence of the native noble crayfish (Astacus astacus).
